Turning Off DCHP

My ISP is Cox Communications i have a Netgear C6300BD Modem i would like to turn off DCHP on my modem but evey time i do so it keeps getting this message 

 

"If this service is disabled and no other DHCP server is on your network, set your computer IP addresses manually so that they can access the router"

 

How can i do that sorry im such a newbie to networking.

       Why?  Is there some actual problem which you are trying to solve?

       Strictly speaking, a C6300 is a modem+router.  The DHCP server is a
    function of the router part, not the modem part.

       It would depend on the specific device.

       Which makes it that much more important to have a good reason to do
    something like disabling your only DHCP server.

      I was experimenting with the router and when i activated bridge mode it had DCHP off and port forwarding worked

           Does that mean that you're trying to solve a port-forwarding problem?
