Forgotten how to configure a PowerLINE WiFi 1000

I must be getting stupid because I managed to install my PowerLine adapters two years ago. But now, after I changed my computer and DSL configuration, I'm trying to reset/configure my PowerLINE and I haven't gotten it to work.

My new setup is a DSL modem that talks to my Apple Time Capsule, and I'm using it as my wireless router. No problems at all in the house. I'm trying to extend the network to a television in a garage apartment. (It used to work, but now I've messed it up and can't get it to work again.)

I have an ethernet connection from the Time Capsule to the PowerLINE, and it's plugged in. I have two green lights and a red light. In the apartment, I have the other PowerLINE, and it has a blue WIFI LED, a red pick-a-plug, and a green power LED. These are the same lights I had when everything worked well. My iPad sees the Netgear##_EXT network, but when I try to join the network in Settings, it just spins and never asks for a password. I've joined the AppleTV to the NetGear network and entered the adapter's password that's on the back. I can start the MLB network and see the scores, but I get an error if I try to play a game. I can see a list of movies on my computer. But if I select a movie and try to start it, I get a screen with the scrubber at the bottom and a timeline that shows the length of the movie, but the movie never starts. If I try to connect the TV directly to the NetGear network and enter a password, then I get an error when I try to connect directly to any internet channel.

Have you factory reset the plugs and started from scratch?

Your footer says PL1000, but you mention wifi, so I assume that you have the PLW1000.

There is a manual for the PLW1000 somewhere at the end of this link:

Is the TV  supposed to connect to the powerline by wifi or wire? The latter is better.

A red pick-a-plug is less than encouraging.

    What is "the MLB network"?

      1) Yes, I reset the factory settings. Perhaps that was a mistake.

      2) You're right, it is a PLW1000.

      3) I have the installation guide (really barely a pamphlet) that came with the device. I just looked at the manual, and I didn't see anything additional there for me.

      4) The TV is powered by wifi. I'm not sure it even has an ethernet connector. The AppleTV is wifi. The AppleTV shows a very strong signal from the adapter. (But because the pick-a-plug is red, I'm worried that not much is getting through. We just switched from Comcast to Windstream, so I was at first tempted to blame Windstream. But that wouldn't explain why streaming a movie from another device on my network would be affected.)

      5) MLB Network is just an internet channel - the Major League Baseball Network.

I'm no expert on Apple stuff. (I can't afford it.) So I don't follow all the original message.

I would try to eliminate the plugs from the picture. If you have other wifi stuff around, a phone or a tablet, try setting up the plugs in the same room and seeing if the other wifi clients will play ball. Get that sorted out and you can turn your attention to the Apple kit.

Look on the back. My experience is that LAN is more common that wifi on smart TVs. And if it can do LAN, Powerline can be a better way of connecting than wifi. LAN is easier to set up, and once configured is less flaky.

Some newer mobile OS can behave "difficult" if they can associate to a network but don't get a network config in time.

The red LEDs indicate a very bad powerline connection over the circuit. Try to re-locate the adapters, away from any extension cords and distributors, ideally direct on a wall outlet.

I know tha the red light isn't good.

The house is 40-50 years old, and it's in the garage apartment, so I feel fortunate to even see a signal. I know that back when it used to work without problems, I never had anything better than a red signal.

What's strange is I was going to unhook it this morning and test it in the same room as the router. But the network worked this morning. Not sure what that means ... why it's been failing all these weeks at night.
