powerline extender PLW1000, need help boosting signal range across the wires

The Powerline setup works great within the house, but I'm trying to get the receiver to work in a second structure on my property.  When I plug it in at the second location about 150 feet away, I only get a red light on the pick a plug display.  Is there anyway to boost the signal to get it to work across this long distance?

  • 150 feet may be stretching it, depending on the quality of the mains circuit. I do about 50 feet and see some speed loss.

Netgear advises against using "extension blocks", although I find that they work just fine. I do, though, avoid using extensions that have surge suppression or any other "mains cleaning" technology.
