Powerline XAV5001 not showing on the Netgear utility

Hi,

I have 3 power line adaptors connected to my network via my windows 10 PC and talktalk router. All adaptors show 3 green LEDs and are supplying internet connection. My issue started when I updated my network player in my hi fi ,(which is connected to one of the adaptors) the new streamer would not recognise my music server which is connected to the same network via the other adaptor. I tried connecting the streamer wirelessly and it picked up the server without issue. So I know the problem is with the power line adaptors. I downloaded the netgear utility and it only picked up two of the adaptors and then listed them as unknown. Tried to install the latest firmware update but without success as the adaptors are not recognised. Have tried a factory reset and pressing the securing buttons, but all to no avail. Not sure where to start so would appreciate any help in getting my wired network back to normal.

  • Hi,

I would do the following for all three adapters to check that they are working ok:

    1) plug in and connect adapter to PC via lan cable (do not have the other two plugged in anywhere)

    2) update firmware using Firmware Upgrade Utility

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/XAV5001_XAVB5001/XAV5001%20%20XAVB5001%20Firmware%20Upgrade%20Utility%20v2.0.0.2.zip

    3) Change Encryption Key to 'HomeplugAV' using Powerline Utility

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/XAVN2001/NETGEAR_Powerline_Setup_V3.1.0.4_230-10802-06.zip

    4) Remove adapter and connect the next one to your PC (plugged into the wall socket)

Do this for all three units then the Powerline Utllity should see all three.  If you want to change the encryption key to something else you can do for all three units now at the same time.

    Hope this helps

      Hi,

Thank you for the quick response. Partial success. I downloaded the Netgear Utility via your link and it was obviously a later version than the one I had. Once installed it picked up and recognised all the adaptors and stated that they were all unnamed but their software was up to date. When i tried to change the encryption key on the adaptors as you advised I clicked the default option and then a further screen appeared asked for device password. The first adaptor in the list had its password filled in but concealed by xxxxxxx. The second and third adaptor passwords were missing so I carefully typed it in for the second adaptor and it states it is the wrong password. Did not go any further and decided to report back to you.

Thanks for the help so far,

Ok so the Utility has found all three, thats good.  Which one of the three is the problem adapter?  I would still be inclined to put the firmware onto it again (even though it already has it) just to reset it and know you have a fresh install of it.  Do this by attaching directly to this one with an ethernet cable and running the firmware update utility in my previous post.

The password for the connected adapter will always show xxxxxxxxxx as the Utility doesn't need it - it is connected by an ethernet cable so doesn't need to authenticate by using a password.

        Hope this helps
