XAVB5601 problems
1. Why is there no support page for the XAV5601 (or the 2-kit, XAVB5601)??
2. Just installed this kit. Speeds are good, connection is made around 350 Mbps according to the Powerline utility. BUT, the connection drops every now and then. When I'm surfing the web, Google Chrome sometimes says 'Sending request..' and after a while I get to see a DNS error. My modem/router (192.168.0,1) isn't reachable as well. This takes a minute and then the connection seems to work again. This is unworkable .. any hints?
Tried reproducing this, thought it especially happened when they just 'woke up' but it also happens when they've been operating for a while.
I didn't have this problem with a network cable / wireless.

- CDKAspirantHmmm, before I return these I tried the two devices plugged into a two gang wall socket and my router networked into one and a target device into the other. So they are right next to one another in terms of power wiring. All the lights are green up until I try to access the target device. I tried a NAS and a full PC with the same result. As soon as I try and access the target device, the powerline adapter connected to it just goes through this cycle:
- all lights off
- power and ethernet flash green while powerline light flashes amber
- power and powerline lights flash green
- ethernet light turns green
- all lights are on green now
- all lights off ...
On the device my router is connected to all lights stay green.
I don't know all the details of this but to me it really does seems like the Netgear device is at fault here, so it's going back to Amazon. I still trust Netgear but I don't think I'd buy any more of their powerline adapters. - KnudPetersenAspirant1) I have the same problem with XAVB5601 PowerLine. I use it for Internet radio, but it drops out several time per hour.
2) I also have the XAVB5004-100PES Powerline (withot poweroutlet). With this one I never loose connection. - DogbertNETGEAR EmployeeHi All,
One of the engineers asked me to ask if the problem still persists with the latest firmware on the units. Can you post what firmware you are using, and I can pass it on to the product engineer. - wes82AspirantYes, the problem is still present. There is still random signal loss.
My firmware versions are:
Powerline adapter 1: V0.2.0.7.CE
Powerline adapter 2: V0.2.0.6.CE - wes82AspirantThe problem (random signal loss) is still present. Firmware adapters: Powerline adapter 1: V0.2.0.7.CE Powerline adapter 2: V0.2.0.6.CE
- McMerfyAspirantHi
Does anyone knows what's the operating distance between two xavb5601 ? Have the same issue - devices keep loosing connection so I am trying to figure out is the problem is in the devices themselves or something else, like the distance between them. Even when they get linked to each other I only see the poorest connection speed.
Thanks. - wes82Aspirant

I had this problem reported to Netgear 9 months ago. I then received a set of new XAVB5601 adapters, but I still had the same problem. After many tests I came to the conclusion that there is a problem with the adapters and not with my grid or network.
I have used the same sockets and wiring with 3 different types of powerline adapters (D-Link DHP-301 200mbit, Powerline Adapter 85Mbps Ethernet Eminent starting kit xLINE and TP-Link TL-PA411KIT 500mbit. With none of these adapters I have had a connection problem.
Meanwhile, I naturally contacted Netgear back. They forwarded my problem to level 3 (I think this means that engineers are solving the problem). I have given them all my test information. Now I'm waiting almost 1.5 months for an answer / solution. - McMerfyAspirantHi wes,
Thanks for your reply. Will wait for actions from NG. Meanwhile I think I will have to try solutions from other manufacturers.
Thanks pal. - BemorphAspirant

Hi,
Yes, the problem is still present. There is still random signal loss.
My firmware versions are:
Powerline adapter 1: V0.2.0.6.CE
Powerline adapter 2: V0.2.0.6.CE
When I try "Check for Updates" in the "Netgear Powerline Utility D.3.1.0.4" it says this: "ERROR: Could not read control file on NETGEAR server."
Followed by: "ERROR: Could not connect to the NETGEAR server."
I do have a working internet connection. - TKAAspirantI've got this problem as well. I thought I got it solved with Netgear support (changed cable and router port), but it seems the "fix" only lasted the weekend. Beats me why the weekend was trouble-free, but if that issue with the door vibrations is real, then I can see how a weekend might be more peaceful in this apartment building.
Sadly I can only use these wall sockets, so I can't move it to a more stable location, but this sounds like really poor construction if it really is the cause.
Mine are the GRS version, i.e. the Schuko plug, so they sit rather solidly in the socket.
The same connection worked without issue for weeks with D-Link adapters before I upgraded to Netgear for the plug-through feature. I suppose I'll have to go back to what works.
For anyone wondering, the D-Link adapters and Netgear adapters get along very well. The D-Link adapters are not the cause of the issue, as I have now disconnected them from the network, but the cutouts still occur.
