A6210 USB 3.0 Adapter
Dear Tech Support...
I selected the standalone install which was supposed to be drivers only.
But it installed the Genie software as is evedent because it can be uninstalled thru control panel / programs. But if I uninstall it, I also uninstall the drivers and the adapter no longer works.
Here is the deal... I get max speed 800 and something mbps.. This is all good, however I noticed that my upload and download counters in the Netgear status properties was clicking along at a pretty good pace. Not a lot of traffic, but enough to make me suspictious of a unauthorized network traffic situation. So snooping around i discovered the A6210.exe aka netgear geni was causing the traffic. But there is no network geni application/ GUI to bring up to see what configuration changes i could make to make it stop.
Yeah the geni can supposidly make it easier for a dumbuser... errA errA I mean endUser to mess with their router etc.. but even though i have a netgear router nighthawk i don't need it, if in fact that was what its intentions were.
In any event, I disabled it in startup, and now i have no extra traffic and my adapter works just fine.
So now I am wondering if there is more to be disabled, or that can be dissabled to keep my computer running smoothly.
Remember back in the old days when your computer discovered a new device... All you had to do is point it to the drivers, the drivers would install, and that would be that...
Can you supply us with just the drivers?
by the way I do not have any problems with my A6210 it works great under windows 8.1.

Sorry I ment to say I am running Vista on a HP Laptop with USB 2.0, and it performs great.... - LDigheraNoviceI would like to use the Netgear AC1200/A6210 USB WiFi adapter on my Windows 8 (64 bit) system without the overhead of Genie.
Windows8 automatically installs the Media Tek, Inc. 5.1.19.0 driver( without Genie).
Previously, I installed the A6210_v1.0.0.28-standalone-signed.exe package I downloaded from Netgear support here. But I would have had to disable a lot of files to get rid of Genie.
Files installed by NETGEAR A6210 Genie:A6210.EXE - Genie Application (A6210 Genie MFC Application)
NtgrAdapterUpdate.dll - Netgear Adapter Update Interface (Adapter Update)
NtgrAdapterUpdateOld.dll
ICSDHCP.dll (by Ralink Technology) - ICSDHCP Dynamic Link Library (ICSDHCP DLL)
RaWLAPI.dll - RaWLAPI Dynamic Link Library (RaWLAPI DLL)
Ralink.dll - Ralink Dynamic Link Library (Ralink DLL)
NetgearSwitchUSB.exe - MediatekSw Application
NetgearSwitchUSB-XP.exe
Program behaviorsBehaviors exhibited:
ServiceNetgearSwitchUSB.exe runs as a service named 'NetgearSwitchUSB' (NetgearSwitchUSB).
Hope this helps. LDighera@att.net - Retired_Member
Installed the A6210_1.0.0.30-Standalone.exe package, which was suspiciously similar in size to the package with Genie bundled, and was disappointed to later discover A6210.EXE (A6210 Genie) resident in task manager. Seemingly able to remove A6210.EXE from startup in msconfig with no ill effect, but the install ought to be driver-only, like the release notes say:
If you want to install the adapter drivers including the NETGEAR utility (Genie), run A6210_v1.0.0. 30.exe. and follow the on-screen install instructions.
If you want to install just the adapter drivers without the NETGEAR utility, run A6210_v1.0.0.30-Standalone.exe. and follow the on-screen install instructions.
The way the utility's installed, started and merely left 'hidden' is quite sloppy/lazy on Netgear's part, and undermines those who might be trying to practise Krebs’s 3 Basic Rules for Online Safety.
