Jan 27, 2016Can I connect a EX6200 Wireless Extender to existing router via Ethernet
Hi,
I have recently upgraded to a Fibre UFB connection, and I must now use the Modem / Router provided by my ISP (It's a NetComm NF4V with modified firmware by the ISP).
The router is OK (not as good as my old Netgear D6300 though...), but the WiFi performance is quite poor, I really miss the excellent 5GHz WiFi of the D6300.
So, I was thinking I might get a EX6200 and use that as my WiFi access point and just disable the WiFi on the NetComm NF4V - of course, to do this I would need to connect the EX6200 to the NF4V via ethernet uplink -- is this possible? Or, can the EX6200 only connect to a router via WiFi?
To summarise: Can the EX6200 connect to a router via ethernet and operate as an independent Wireless access point, rather than a range extender?
Any help or assistance greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I think I just found the answer... in the EX6200 manual it says:
CAUTION: Do not use an Ethernet cable to connect the extender to a WiFi router. If you do so, the extender does not work because it is designed to use only a WiFi connection to a WiFi router.
So, it looks like the answer is "No".
Can anyone suggest a Netgear product that will work the way I need it to?
Thanks.

According to the manual, you can use the D6300 as a Access Point - Page 99.
