Is there a trick to connect the range extender to the 5 ghz band? Range extender only connects to the 2.4 ghz which is b/g/n. Tried pushing WPS button twice, per directions. Reset devices, no joy. De...

Have you tried to set up the extender in the same room as the router then move the extender after you do the setup?

Yes I set it up in same room as router twice and bandwidth downgrade still happens
