EX7000 no internet connection
Ok - I'm stumped on this one and I'm not paying $50 for a support call if I cana get a new one for $100. Recently, my EX7000 (in Access Point mode) has been reporting that it has no internet connection. However, it passes internet traffic just fine to it's wired and wireless clients. I've done a factory reset, gave it a static IP/DNS address, everything I can think of and it stll tells me that I have no internet connection to the AP. I've shut off the USB side as well, same problem. Fast Lane is not enabled. The log on my router isnt showing any errors and I've rebooted the entire network stack a couple of times in the proper sequence. I've tried going back to an older version of the firmware - same problem. Everything I do, same problem. Sometmes AP don't get their own IP address, and that's fine - but this looks like a DNS problem to me. But then why is flagging it as an error and why would it start now when it's been working like a champ for over the past year and 1/2. I wouldnt care if it doesnt have it's own IP address, but I'm having a problem getting a wifi signal sync'd up via WPS to a tivo adapter - it's not connecing to the internet. It was working until this Saturday when I switched out the TiVO. I can't fix that problem until I know what to do about this. Any suggestions - what am I missing? Thanks.

- DrCharlesForbinApprenticeI'm going to check tonight now that I have the Mac addresses for the access point.
- NGGJAspirantDid the IPv6 test and failed.
My provider in the UK evidently does not support it at this time. There are not many ip6 only sites from what i can tell so its not an issue yet but i am just trying to identify a common denominator. From what i can tell there is some tunneling trickery that goes on to support this and perhaps somethings gone astray, still a long shot and i am sure someone with better networking skills would have a better idea

Same issue Virgin Media in the UK does not support IPv6 and sure this is not the issue anyway. Did have a look on my Netgear R8000 to see if I could bridge IPv4 to IPv6 but you cannot, only the other way around and not going to help you.
I still think itβs a call home feature at firmware level and could be as simple as a security certificate has expired at the Netgear end but would expect to see a HTTPS request go out on the firewall logs and I could not see this but that does not mean Netgear may filter this out for us not to see this?
Answer other posts β I have Kaspersky Total Security 2017 for AV and Windows 10 Creator Edition for desktop and Laptop but also same error message on Android tablet version 6.
yeah i think the whole ip6 thing was a long shot but running out of ideas. i was going to say something about what do you expect when you use an internet providor that does not go all the way :-)
i can also see nothing on my router logs, i cleared them first so i started with a clean slate but so far nothing useful.
i am surprised by the lack of answers from Netgear as this may well be something very simple
- DrCharlesForbinApprenticeOk - next question. How is your access point directly talking to the provider without being NATted?

Just read my router doc - they have instructions for creating the 6RD tunnel. I'll try it tonight and let you know if I have any success

I configured my R8000 under advanced setup IPv6 set 6 to 4 Tunnel and yes, the EX7000 can now see the internet - no more error message, no reboot required instantly worked.
My ISP does not support IPv6 so regardless of this working Netgear especially for the UK need to still set IPv4 as the default!
Netgear we have found the answer to your problem now can you fix this please. I must be honest though I am still not happy with the call home feature anyway and we should have an option to turn this off. If not this extender is going to end up on eBay in the next few weeks.
Well done to everyone involved if you have a support call outstanding then need to point them to these posts.
- DrCharlesForbinApprenticeThank you everyone and Netgear should pay you for your time :-)

DRCharlesFobin - I still like the 6rd tunnel this may be a better option interesting though I set IPv6 to auto and it liked IPv6 to 4.
Report back later
- WiltshsGuide
I cannot get 6rd running ISP does not support. So could leave it in IPv6 to 4 but ISP does not support this but it does seem to work?
I could not get Netgear Genie working and able to log into the router befire changing IPv6 to 4 setting and now I can!
So Netgear have gone full IPv6 but not all ISP's can support this so still need to fix this issue.
i agree, great result and well done to all for taking the time to investigate. sadly my Telstra Cable modem does not seem to give me many options to fix this but i understand native support is around the corner and in the end for me it still works, i just have an incorrect status screen on the access point.

Well, I set up a 6to4 Auto Tunnel on my router, no difference - still blocked. I either have to relay it - anything but 2002 requires a seperate relay - or try a 6rd.
- NGGJAspirantFor those less talented than yourselves, would any of you have the time to put together an idiot's guide on this 6RD solution, please?
Or should we who are less skilled be better if simply wait for another firmware update?
(Given that there is almost no loss of functionality - apart from the EX7000 itself not being able to check for and install its own updates, so users will have to download and manually, via the R8000 in my case, install any future updates)- DrCharlesForbinApprentice
if it helps - try this link. It's confusing to me too - and I'm in IT - not the network side though. The main to keep in mind is that it actually does function - this is just an annoyance.
- Hi all,
I had finally got a reply from Netgear and they will be providing a fix very soon.
I guessed it was a good effort made by so many contributors to make it known to them on the annoyance of the problem that has caused so much inconvenience to many device owners.
At least now that I do appreciate that they took my case seriously and made progress in their findings and fixes.
I will update again once I get the issue fixed by them. Good News everyone!
I have got the fix from Netgear, deployed onto my EX7000 and it is working now! I do not see the No Internet Connection false message anymore and in addition, when i disconnect my main router from the internet, my EX7000 will also get updated with real no internet connection message.
I believe the fix will be provided by Netgear support very soon! Everyone do keep a lookout soon!
Cheers!
- DrCharlesForbinApprenticeDamn, they should pass it to me. I was the one that opened the thread π π In all seriousness, thanks. Now I have to return that modem that I was going to use.
- DrCharlesForbinApprenticeModem? Wow ... idiot alert - router. π

Hello, Thanks to all! I am not an IT technician, I just want good quality that works. That's why I bought the Netgear. With the conversion to IPv6 / IPv4 in my router, where otherwise only standard settings are, I get with Netgear Genie this message no longer. OK, now the bug is even officially improved. But the question remains: why, when and how did this happen? Was there something secretly tried on our Netgear EX7000? Good luck Frantisek
its an interesting question because this issue occured without any change from the users, i did not change my network, i did not update firmware.
As far as i am concerned Netgear made a change to their environment that created an issue with existing devices and now they are looking to fix that by effectivly patching the devices with updated firmware. Its a good thing that this really is just a cosmetic issue and nothing more serious. Cant say i would get away with this kind of thing at my work without having to hand over my testicals in jam jar as punishement
- DrCharlesForbinApprenticeEver hear of Occam's Razor? The simplest explaination is usually the correct one. If you live in the States, you know that screw ups are becoming more common as the focus shifts from quality to cost savings - assumptions are made and QA can be myopic. I can't attribute this to Netgear, of course, it's simply an generic observation. I've generally found them to be on the higher end of quality for consumer grade products. **bleep** happens.
