Looking to extend the signial strengh from my houe out to my pool area.
I have a Netgear N600 WNDR3400 in my office which is located down stairs(Basement area). This router reach up into the second floor well. It is connected to a Netgear WN2500RP Extender to extend the Wifi signial to my 2nd and 3rd floors towards the other end of the house. All of this works very well.
Out at the pool area I can see the Extender signal but at a minimal level (one/two bars at best). It is not consistent and I get disconnected often. The Extender is located just inside the house behind a brick wall (Kitchen) where out side of that wall is a direct view to the pool area. I am thinking I need to extend the Extender with an external antena? to get a good strong signial at the pool area which is approx 100" away. I am not aware of an antenna that connectes to the Extender for this purpose? Please let me know how I can accomplish this. Thanks
Hi KrisStarling,
The extenders listed above are home products that are available through vendors such as Amazon.
The WN25000RP will not function properly when ethernet to router. However the extenders listed above will connect ethernet to router when set to access point.
Please see page 23 of 86. http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WN2500RPV2/WN2500RPv2_UM_28May2014.pdf
The enclosure might work depending on thickness.

There are low and high tech ways of extending the reach of a wireless signal. You can try doing a web search for 'diy wifi antenna'. You'll find everything from using a Pringles can to building an antenna arrary. I posted some DIY links in this post recently.

Are you aware of Netgear being able to add a second wireless repeater/extender. I have the base router then the wireless repeater/Extender. Can I add a second repeater/extender to extend the signal even further? Second question - is there an atenna that uses Cat 5/RJ-45 that could be run from the repeater/extender to an atenna that I locate out side pointing to the pool area? Thanks
Chaining extenders/repeaters wirelessly is usually not recommended due to performance drop and, depending on the model, may not be possible. There are no antennas that use Cat 5/RJ-45. Even if you use proper antenna cable (like LMR-400), you wouldn't want to string the antenna too far from the extender because signal levels drop off very fast at Gigahertz radio frequencies.
Is your first extender wired into your router? If so, what you might be able to do is wire a second extender into the first extender via Cat 5. Then place the second extender in a location with good coverage of the pool area.
