NETGEAR WiFi Range Extender EX6120 drops wired connection

I'm having an issue where my wifi Extender keeps dropping it's wired connection to my PC. At first it happened every once in awhile, then once evertime I got on my PC, now it's every hour or so. The wired connection changes to read "Unidentified Netword, no internet access" and when I run the troubleshooter all I get is "Ethernet 3 doesn't have a valid IP address". If I unplug the extender and plug it back in, it boots up and works fine, until it doesn't. Any idea what's going on?

    Hello, Falco4077

The issue with your WiFi extender dropping its wired connection and giving an “Unidentified Network, no internet access” error could be due to several factors. Here’s a concise troubleshooting guide:

Update Drivers: Ensure your network adapter drivers are up to date.
Power Management: Disable the “Energy-Efficient Ethernet” and “Green Energy” settings in your Ethernet adapter properties.
Static IP: Assign a static IP address to your PC’s Ethernet connection to avoid IP conflicts.
Network Settings: Adjust the “Speed & Duplex” settings in your Network Adapter properties to “1.0 Gbps Full Duplex” if it’s set to “Auto Negotiation” to prevent speed flip-flopping.
Reboot Devices: Unplug and reboot your extender, router, and modem to refresh the connections.
Extender Settings: Check if your extender can be configured as an access point, which may provide a more stable connection.

I hope this step is to solve your query.

    Best Regard,

When it happens, log into the extenders using its ip address and check its connection back to the router. many times I see people put extenders to far out of range and they drop frequently. An extender should be midway between where you need coverage and the router. Otherwise the extender doesn't have a decent signal to connect to

I moved it as far away from my PC as possible, while still being able to keep a wired connection. I logged in as told and the website makes it look like there's a good connection (see attatched image). But on my PC it always has one or two bars for a wireless connection and now the whole thing disconnects every 15 minutes or so.

Your pc is hardwired into the extender? If so, it shouldn't have any wireless displayed. If it is, you're connecting with the wired and wireless and it might be defaulting to the wireless connection versus the wired one. You can go into the computer and disable wireless to force the wired function

  • For anyone take drastic or complicated steps to fix this problem, one thing I would suggest you do first is move your extender unit to an electrical outlet is very close to your main router, and then power it up.  I just tried this for my extender that would only light up the amber power light and go no further, and when I move it close to the main router, the lights turned green as they should, and then I moved the extender back to where it needs to go, and it started working fine.
