Netgear wn3000rpv3 not connecting to router via ethernet

So here is my challenge:

I have Belkin Router and a netgear wn3000rpv3 extender. the extnder is able to connect to the router fine through wifi and I am able to connect to my devices as well as long as I set it up as an extender.

I have a 75mbps connection. by the time I get to my device via the extender.. the speeds are dropping to like 2 to 4 mbps. Hence I thought I will get a cable pulled from my router to my extender.

which I did.. and here starts the challenge. My extender is not able to connect to the router as an access point. It just keeps saying " The extender can't connect to the router'.

I tried a manual setup using a static Ip. but to no avail. I dont get internet from the extender.

My belkin router details are as follows:

IP : 192.168.2.1

Mask: 255.255.255.0

DHCP enabled from 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.200

Need some help and assistance of how I can setup the access point throught ethernet so I can hget faster speeds.

Regards,

PK.

  • So I finally found a solution to this and its pretty wierd. I used a readymade patch cable to test if it would work with that and lo and behold it worked!!!!

So I set to troubleshoot why it was not working with the cable I have laid from my living room to my bed room. I checked the readymad cable to see if it was any different. It was standard straight cable with two pair connections. So I thought maybe a cabling issue and I re-crimped both sides of my cable. And it would still not work!!!!!!

So then I checked the Lan port on the Belkin router in the hall and it had only 4 connectors(two pairs), the first three and then the 6th.

I checked my netgear router and it had all 8 connectors. So I thought maybe thats what is the issue. So I re-crimped the cable on the netgear side to only two pairs as above... and Lo and Behold, it started working!!!!!!

Very weird, because even though I was using all eight wires earlier, since the belkin router lan port had only 4 connectors it should have made jo difference.. but I guess that is what was screwing up the whole thing!!!! Thank You everyone and hope this is helpful to someone in future who might have the same issue!!!!!!
  • I have exactly the same problem.  It will work as a range extender, but not as an Access Point.  Genie spends so long trying to connect to router when attempting to connect to router that it slows down the entire network.

Anyone find a solution to this problem?

  • One additional point I forgot to mention is that when I connect that cable to my laptop, it works like a charm.

      Hello psk2606

Do you have Firmware 1.0.2.24 which is the latest firmware?

  • Yep tried that as well. As soon as i sel ct access point, it says trying to connect to the internet and then comes back saying that it is unable to connect to the router? Should I be uaing a normal Lan cable or should it be a cross cable?

    Hello psk2606

Have you tried to factory reset the unit by holding the reset button for 10 seconds then try setup again and select ap mode to begin with.
