I am not looking to extend my internet (wireless). I was wondering why Cox Communications tells me this is needed in order for me to go to their top tier internet option off 300/15.

Hmm, the title says WCB6000q and in the body you reference WCB6200q, so I thought you were considering an upgrade from the former to the latter. Are you saying that you have neither?
If I were to guess at Cox's motivation, they probably think that the R7000 will not be able to deliver 300 Mbps throughout your entire residence. That will depend on the size of your place but it could be true. But you'll have to decide whether you need that much speed via Wi-Fi. Most likely you won't.
If you do find that you need additional Wi-Fi coverage, I would not get a WCB6200q. Since you have Ethernet wiring in your house, you could install an Ethernet based Access Point. The WCB6200q uses coax.
