R6900v2 Failed Firmware Update-Corrupt
I tried updating my R6900v2 Nighthawk from V1.2.0.16 to 1.2.0.24 yesterday. After several failed attempts through NetGenie I tried via the Admin console(routerlogin.net). It again failed repeatedly, so I downloaded the file directly from Netgear and extracted the .img file. When I used the UI on the Admin page, it went through the steps to update the firmware. But instead of rebooting after the progress bar filled up, it went to a broken page.
After hours of waiting for the router to reboot, I manually rebooted it. Now the router appears to be bricked. When I power it on, the power LED stays AMBER. It doesn't flash or anything. If I press & hold the reset button and cycle the power, waiting for the power LED to start flashing white before releasing the reset button, it just continues to flash. The router at this point does not respond to pings and all guides that I've found that recommend usage of Windows' tftp client and tfpt2.exe (GUI) do not work.
At this point is there anything I can do to revive my router???
In leiu of writing an overly drawn-out post, I had hoped to make it concise and perhaps find someone who has had the same or similar experience with the R6900v2. But, if more detail is called for, then here it is.
Well....going back through the 3 different articles/posts (first, second, third), I redid the last step in the 3rd post a couple times and viola! It eventually took.
So to fix this issue, I did the following. I tried it once to no avail, did a power recycle and did the push on bootup and it worked.
tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put R6900v2-V1.2.0.16_1.0.1.img

All of those TFTP recovery schemes involve many details, including
manually configuring the Windows system IP parameters. "do not work" is
far from a useful description of what you did, and what happened when
you did it. Similarly, "all guides that I've found" reveals little
about what you were reading.

This means that the TFTP approach is not the same as the way you do things with a flashing amber LED.
That is why your solution worked.
Netgear really does need to write better notes on this issue. I only found out about recovery mode because I had to use it for some beta tests that required even more "magic" on the router.
