My Router Does Not Work

Hello,

My Modem & Router are setup and all indications tell me that I have Internet, but there is no internet from the Lan Ports & Unable to access Wifi. Message is "Obtaining IP Address", but never connects. I have checked the manual etc.

Please, can someone tell me what to do next?

Thanks

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your tips and instruction. I did all as requested:

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.

Now, I have internet access. Many thanks again

    Best regards

History?  New installation?  Previously working arrangement has
    failed?

"Not Work" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
    descriptions or interpretations.

    > My Modem & Router [...]

The non-psychics in your audience might know nothing about these
devices.  Maker?  Model Number?  Look for "Model" on the product label.
    Firmware version?  Connected to what?

    > [...] are setup [...]

       How, exactly?

    > [...] and all indications tell me that I have Internet, [...]

_Which_ "all indications"?  I can't see them from here.

    > [...] there is no internet from the Lan Ports [...]

See "not a useful problem description [...]", above.

    > [...] Unable to access Wifi. [...]

Regarding "Unable", see "Not Work", above.

    > [...] Message is "Obtaining IP Address", [...]

       "Message" from what?

    > I have checked the manual etc.

_Which_ "the manual"?  Think, for a moment, about how little useful
information "etc" conveys to the non-psychics in your audience.

    > [...] can someone tell me what to do next?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for the
LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot"?  If questions or problems remain,
then you might return here with some useful information about them.

If you bought this stuff new, then you might contact the maker for
    support.  For example: http://netgear.com/support

    Hi,

AC 750 WiFi Router, R6020 - Setup completed successfully, modem LB1120 also installed and setup correctly. Modem has: Power LED Green, 5 LED signal strength lights are green & LED for Internet is green, Ethernet cable from Modem (Wan) is connected to Router (Wan).

At the Router: LEDs Power, WiFi, Internet are all Green. This means that I should have an Internet signal on all 4 Lan Ports, but I don't, Ethernet cable from these Lan ports don't have any internet to connected devices and no WiFi to any device. When I attempt to access the Internet from my computer from WiFi Setup Panel, I cannot access Netgear System, It keeps searching for an IP address forever!

The above system initially worked fine for one day only, then just today, I have no internet Access

    Help, Please.

    Thanks

What tells you that you "don't have any internet to connected devices"? You see a message in a browser or something else?

Is this a Windows PC? If so, what does it tell you in Network & Internet?

A good place to start is with "Troubleshoot problems" in Windows networking.

You can then ask it to diagnose problems with your network adapters.

Have you tried to restart the network in the correct order?

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

      • Turn off and unplug modem.
      • Turn off router and computers.
      • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
      • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
      • Turn on computers and rest of network.

It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

      Hi there,

This is assuming that you have internet from your Modem:

Try this: remove the Ethernet Cable from your router & connect it to your laptop and check for Internet Access. If you can access the internet, then re attach the cable to router. Next, un-plug the router power supply and wait for a minute or two, then reconnect power, wait for all LEDs on router light up. At the Router, attach a device that you want internet to via Ethernet cable & check for internet access.
