Nighthawk R7000P is on and off internet over 5G
Hello,
2.4 is working fine all the time, but for the 5 G, I can find that the laptop keeps disconnecting and connecting sometimes this happens more than 2 times per hour for no reason.
But sometimes if the phone wifi is off and I make it one, the 5G network will be restarted and then work normally, and if I make the phone wifi off and on again the issue will be repeated.
Please advise.
Thank you,
Mostafa

A couple of basic questions to get you started. What is the brand name and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that is connected upstream of your R7000P? Look on the label if you need to.
What is the version number of the firmware that is installed on your R7000P? "The latest" is not a version number, log on to the user interface and look in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Do you have any neighbors that are also broadcasting Wi-Fi on the 5 GHz band?

Hi Kitsap,
Thank you for your fast response.
My modem is: ARRIS - SURFboard SB6190 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem,
The Router Firmware version is V1.3.3.154_10.1.86.
I don't know the neighbors broadcasting Wi-Fi on the 5 GHz band.

Good things. Your modem is a modem only and not a combination modem/router. Your router firmware is current.
Log in to the user interface and check your 5 GHz Wi-Fi settings for channel, mode, and security. Usually under the Advanced -> Setup -> Wireless Setup tab. DFS channels can occasionally be knocked off line. See attached screen snip. I recommend Smart Connect be disabled so you have different SSIDs for the different bands.
Your radio frequency environment (neighbors) can have an impact on your connection. There are a couple of scanning applications for mobile devices that can give you a picture of your situation. I use an Android device. There is a section in the Netgear mobile application called Wi-Fi Analytics and there is an application called WiFiman from Ubiquiti. They should be available in the Play Store of your mobile device. Look to see if the 5 GHz channel you are using is broadcasting the same as your neighbors or on a DFS channel.
Wi-Fi has a lot of variables that impact your connection and your satisfaction with performance. Some background reading to help your understanding can be found here: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html. Duckware is a good reference. Do not try to swallow the whole thing at one time. Review of the first few chapters is a good start.

It can be hard to work out of this sort of thing is due to the router or to the wifi client you are using.
Do all 5 GHz clients experience the same issue?
Does the wifi client behave properly with different wifi sources?
Are any of the anonymous clients Apple devices?

I have two Apple phones 14, one iPad, two Samsung note9 phones, 2 Dell laptops, one TCL TV, and 4 Wi-Fi Camera
We have been using 2.4 for a long time and it was working fine I am working from home and I am only browsing, so, I didn't need to have a high speed, I made a speed test on 2.4 G and I got 30MPS, but on 5G I get 230 MPS.
then I decided to enable the 5G.
I disabled the 5G 4 years ago since I faced the same issue when I was using Samsung, for now, I enabled the 5G and I added my TV and the 3 laptops and 1 iPhone.
This issue is appearing on my Dell Laptop, but this does not mean that the issue is not on my phone, since it may happen and disappear from time to time.
Since I am working 10 hours per day on my laptop I can detect the issue.

Go to the Dell support web site and make sure the firmware for the Wi-Fi adapter in your laptop is up to date.
There are a number of background Wi-Fi signals present from other devices. They are relatively weak and should not be a major problem.
