R7000 New Firmware 1.0.6.28 released
New Features:
- Supports Arlo camera. Set up the R7000 as an Arlo base station and connect an Arlo camera to the R7000 without needing an extra base station..
Bug Fixes:
- Fixes the issue in which port 1237 cannot be used in port forwarding.
- Fixes the issue in which the Kwilt binary cannot be downloaded in some cases.
- Fixes the issue in which MTU is not restored when IPv6 is disabled.
If you are going backwards in release number you might still have them (that is from one of the older recalled beta's). However there is NO guarantee they will work. In cases like that you have to RESET the router and then re-apply manually your setting for proper operation.
If you are moving up from and older official release, like V1.0.4 or older you don't need to reset the router but it is advised. In this case I'd give it a try, have any problems, reset and re-enter is the first thing to try. DO NOT load saved settings from any other version into a new one. That seems to be asking for trouble these days.

I use the Merlin asus firmware on my netgear R7000. Really a stable firmware. Get's more download then on the orginal firmware.
For me the last time i get Netgear router, this also for my friends. - KillhippieProdigy
So can anyone give us a date when the new firmware will be out? Also more information from netgear would have been great and less hysteria on the forum. Certain posters were telling everyone to downgrade to 1.0.4.30 which is fine as long as you dont mind a readyshare print vulnerabilty being on the R7000, its not a huge bug, but its still far from ideal to have any vulnerabilty as part the default firmware you can downgrade to. Netgear could have handled all of this in a better way with info on what owners should/should not be doing as regards to 1.0.6.28
I am really disappointed in this whole debarkle, from forum misinformation, with no devs stepping in with help and advice, to Netgear saying nothing publically about removing the latest updates, or when a new one will be released. A total mess from begining to end. Oh and maybe just maybe Netgear after 4 years at least with various other routers having the same issues with IPV6 they could get that working. The DGND3700v2 had messed up IPV6 back in 2012. At least other manufactures and third party firmware makers seem capable of decent IPV6 support, so why can't Netgear sort this out.

I bought the r7000 last night and didn't see any of this thread before now. When I didn't see the arlo option I called in. It took 45 minutes and 2 differnt people before I was told they pulled it. The agent is going to call me back tomorrow with a status. When I find out more I will post.
- KillhippieProdigyDon't hold your breath for that call.

I recommend using dd-wrt firmware. I ran into many problems with the latest firmware.
Download and flash this: http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/dd-wrt.K3_R7000.chk
Pros:
Awesome, fast and stable firmware with lots of settings you usually don't see with stock firmware.
Cons:
none
My R7000 is running stable since two weeks, no reboots, no WAN connection losses. Just smile :-)

Have you tested Samba shares? I cannot get mine to work on newest DDWRT
- randomnut1Apprentice
I flashed DD-WRT onto my R7000 over the weekend and i've found its like having an entirely new device. Wifi speeds are better, range is better, i'm just finding so much better performance across my network having flashed it.
Just a word of warning though, This link posted earlier: http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/dd-wrt.K3_R7000.chk only leads to Kongs personal test build, and I don't know if he has left extra debug stuff running but I found it slower than his normal release.
His regular release can be found here: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/ - choose the latest version then the r7000 folder. Having flashed that it is like a night and day difference in performance.

Hmm sound good, how did you go changing the region? I'm from Australia, had a quick read and couldn't find a script to allow me to change it to Aus, anyone?
Thanks.

I have read breifly about the Turris Omnia router. Let us know how the new router works out when you get it, or post something on Small Net builder..

Here you go. Another Beta firmware.
- JayBee7AspirantThanks for the suggestions guys, I ended up going back to 1.0.4.3 for now. All good since. Might look at the dd-wrt firmware in future.
Thanks again :) - Retired_MemberI just got off the phone with Net Gear and they're trying to charge me $89 for Help over the phone I don't think so! For something they messed up! My Nighthawk was running fine up until last week until they came out with this new update now it keeps dropping connection every minute and I'm just really sick of it! I reset my nighthawk twice and still nothing works right! The 2.4 gh wireless is messed up bad! It really pisses me off that they're trying to charge money for something they messed up I will never buy anything from Net Gear again

Just becauase it happened when you updated does not mean its their fault. Hardware issues can manifest anytime, it shows up quite often when updating firmware as the router is being taxed more having code changes and if something is wromg thats when it will happen, but its not the firmware that did it, also your router may have just died with bad timing too.
That's how support goes with lots of companies these days 90 days and thats it but the hardware is covered gor how ever many years depending on your country. I think its pretty lousy of Netgear, but its in the T&C's. (Oh Asus have lousy support too) Try contacting them on here, or via facebook or Twitter Facebook support being the best way I have found.
- Retired_MemberThey did whats called a hardware test over the phone killhippie...Asked me what color the lights are etc...Then she told me my routers hardware is working...And then proceeded to try talking me into all these different expensive plans after I already paid over $200 for my router...The router is working...just not working right! And it was fine before this last update...i guess the 2.4 gh part ill have to do without until they fix it...

What I don't understand is why your 2.4Ghz is not working and mine is? Same firmware and I had no issues with 1.0.6.28 either. How did you update, did you do a hard reset via the reset button on the back of the router after the update (wait till all lights are back on I give it a few minutes after to make sure)? Hold the reset button for 20 seconds is what I saw a netgear representative say is desired. I have always held it for about 10 or so and its been fine. Then enter all settings by hand not using a save file. If you have done all that, it makes no sense why some routers work and some don't, unless there is a lot of routers with some incompatibility in them in a hardware revision out there.
- Retired_MemberYup i did a reset twice...the 2.4 ghz does work...but it does not work right,I dont know whats going on with it? It has a long delay or something? When i use it on my wireless things like my samsung 5 etc...lap tops etc...the internet keeps spinning and spinning...like the hour glass on a lap top...just has this long delay? And takes like 50 seconds for a screen to pop up at all...such as if i try going on facebooks app on my phone it just spins away or sometimes just doesent connect at all...as soon as i switched to the 5 ghz earlier its been fine...no delays at all! But yes i did a hard reset twice...I have no idea whats going on??? It was fine before the update
- Retired_MemberSorry forgot to mention how i did the update...I did the firmware update online...typed in routerlogin.net and checked for new firmware and did it online...then i did 2 resets...
- LeKeiserLuminary
Hello,
The best way is to download the firwmare, instead of doing it online. Since you have to do a reset BEFORE installing the new firmware, then another reset AFTER. And of course, never use the backups.
Like Killhippie, I have the latest firmware available and no problem whatsoever with it. WiFi works great, LAN also, printer is fine... Been up for 44 days straight and still fast and all.
