Random disconnects.
I bought an R7000 about a week ago now. My other router kept going wonky on me, could not take any load for any amount of time and was generally a miserable experience.
Now, for my problem with the R7000: I keep having random disconnects. During this time, the internet totally cuts off. The Genie tells me my internet has disconnected. It then resumes normal operation within like 5 or maybe 8 seconds. This happens from once to three times ever hour. I tried upgrading firmware, and custom firmware. Any help for me? Thanks!

For those who have R7000, kindly try to use the beta fw 1.0.5.62.

- karlos1033.... the following article may explain a lot... this was furnished to me by the Netgear Tech who helped me with my issues....

and here is another article I found on the subject... also a good read...
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5793 - karlos1033Aspirantthanks for the info ....did try a ping test and got 0 % loss ....that is with MTU set at 1458 and also same at 1400.
Not tried it at 1492 yet .....but will have a play !! lol
Cheers :) - DevorLuminaryOr, you could contact your ISP (or look on their website) and find out what value to use for the MTU. If after setting the correct MTU there is still an issue, then you would know that the ISP needs to roll a truck to fix their equipment. Setting it unnecessarily low will degrade performance.
- bonecowsAspirantI've been following this thread since I first started having problems since my problem is exactly as described by eoz in the op. The issue being, after working correctly for a while, the internet constantly disconnects and reconnects, staying connected for very short periods before disconnecting agian.
First things first, this issue is probably separate to the wireless disconnecting issue some people have posted, I have been able to reproduce the problem while wireless still works fine.
Secondly, this issue has nothing to do with MTU. While it's all good advice regarding the MTU settings, these settings do not fix nor cause the issue. I have been able to reproduce it with my correct MTU settings and also with lower than recommended settings (in my case 1492, as confirmed by my ISP and by cowboychincs' tutorial posted above).
And lastly, this issue is with the R7000 and not with your ISP. I have tested extensively with different routers using exactly the same settings.
For me the only fix to this issue, both with the official latest firmware and DDWRT is to do a 30/30/30 reset AND reconfigure manually. This issue seems to occur every 4 days to me. Honestly, it seems like a driver issue in my opinion. I'm not terribly experienced programming for low level hardware but it does appear to me to be some sort of memory leak.
Doing a simple factory reset from the GUI, resets the settings but does not fix the problem. I have also confirmed that saving the config immediately after the issue happens and trying to reload that config on a freshly reset router will cause the issue to appear.
I'm waiting for the issue to happen again so I can test if simply loading a fresh config backup on a corrupted router fixes the issue. - Thanks bonecows... I think you may be on to something.... I really believe it is a R7000 issue(s) as well.... I just hate to go out and purchase a different router to see if all of my issues go away... (1) because of the cost and (2) the effort to set it up and hook everything to it... but am close to having to do just that.
I did see some very good improvement (with the 2.4g channels completely dropping and reconnecting multiple times in an hour) when I did the new install of the new FW and followed the very strict instructions on how to reset the router correctly... that issue totally stopped and verified with a wi-fi analyzer App....
but then, after I did the above, I had a different issue... the R7000 disconnects from the internet from the cable modem... at first I thought it was the cable modem... cable company worked with me... even replaced the cable modem... same issues... so we isolated it to the R7000... that is when I got instructions from VZW to change the MTU...
after I did the change, which was about 5-7 days ago, I have only dropped the internet connection once (my MTU is set at 1400 as I previously stated).... so that is an improvement too... but I am NOT happy about all of the above and I dont think it has been really fixed... so am keeping the case open until it is for sure fixed... and may need to go out and purchase the new Asus AC router... checking their user forum... there are VERY few issues with it.... hardly any forum posts on any issues...
I like Netgear stuff... but am rather upset with this issue not getting fixed yet... as we are all still having issues....
Thoughts anyone? - Retired_Member

I know I'm only one person but I arrived at the R7000 AFTER buying the Asus. I tried the Asus first and after a couple of days of fighting with dropped DNS requests and packet loss on the 2.4Ghz band, I sent it back... - uugghh.... I Did NOT want to know that!.... But am thankful for the input.... but I am ready to swap out the R7000 for something reliable.... a long time ago, you could get a router and almost keep it forever as it was sooooo good and stable... but now, it seems like all of them have issues..... does ANYONE have a recommendation for a replacement for the R7000?
- I came to Netgear R7000 from Asus RT-N66U. Glad I did. Looking forward to Tomato firmware for the R7000 but otherwise very happy with it.
- Retired_MemberAll I can offer you is this:
I started on this message board when I bought my first WNDR3700. That router had A LOT of issues.
We here on the forum worked on them together, worked with Netgear, and finally got firmware that worked.
That was FOUR years ago. And the reason why I'm hear now is because I bought an R7000 to replace that 3700.
Yes, it was THAT reliable. - DevorLuminaryMy WNDR3700v1 is still going strong. See uptime in signature. ;)
Now I've gone and jinxed it. LOL
