RS500 unusably bad upload speeds

Am I missing a setting somewhere?!? What the heck could cause this?

Summary of the situation:

  • Upgrading from RAX80 (AX6000) to RS500 (BE12000)
  • Gigabit Fiber at home 1gig up down symmetrical.
  • Before the upgrade I'm getting 900/900 easily on ethernet
  • After upgrade I'm getting 500/23 on ethernet
  • I still have both routers and I can easily reproduce the issue by switching back and forth.
  • Turned off Armor just in case, but it didn't help.
  • Internal speed test built into router produces the same terrible upload speed results

After

You may want to check the firmware on the RS500 make sure its the latest and then factory reset the router and then test again.

Latest firmware is already running. In fact I believe it forced me to update when I did the router setup.

  • Yes, I have tried connected multiple computers to the router, the results are always the same. WiFi mirrors the same behavior with ~5Mbit upload speed.

      Any progress on this?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

        • FW: V1.0.1.60
        • ISP already replaced the main LAN cable uplink. No change
        • ISP doesn't use a modem its a fiber jack I believe. Regardless if I switch back to my RAX80 the problem goes away, so to me this is a Netgear issue.

Latest Update: I have contact netgear support and spent about 2 hours on the phone with them. We all the usual stuff that Tier1 offers: reset router, disabled security/Armor etc, disabled Smart Connect Wifi, changed out cables, tested with/without the router. Without the router we get 900/900 (directly connected to 1 PC).

We also used debug mode to do a capture and uploaded the results to their engineers to take a look. Waiting to hear back. They said they might need to create a beta firmware to fix the issue.

    • Support Update:
    • I went all the way through Tier 1 support with Netgear + we did a dubug mode capture to collect data and send to engineering. I waited over 2 weeks and it appears that nobody at Netgear has review the results so I'm at my wits end with this router. I'm sending it back to Best Buy.

Parents: FYI, this router has no "free option" regarding parental controls. This router does not support "Circle" like my last router, and circle has a free option. The RS500 (and i'm assuming all the new RSX00 routers), have a new Netgear parental control program which you can do a free trial but after that you're paying $70 a year. yuck no thanks.

Regarding the slow upload speed issue, especially when the RS router is connected to an ONT, we have a trial firmware build that may resolve the issue. It worked in our test.

If you would like to give it a try, please let me know your RS router model and I will PM you the firmware.

      Thanks.

I had the EXACT same issue. Ongoing since Jan 27th with tech support! Slow Wi-Fi speeds and wired speeds. Although initially, not the case. Got beta firmware from NG 1.0.1.84 that didn't solve and made the Wired way worse. Went back to my Linksys MX5300 and the speeds both Wifi and Wired were normal. Bought RS500 from NG so sent it back via RMA. Await new one. I hope it was a defective unit and not a defective product.
