ReadyCloud PC client with ReadyNAS setup for local LAN only

Hi,

We have ReadyNAS 314 setup in offline mode (for internal network use only). Have configured a ReadyCloud account and downloaded/configured the PC Client software in our PC on local network.  Intention is to use ReadyCloud sync feature from PC in "connected local" mode.

Access to ReadyNAS from the internet is disabled in our firewall.  Client PC has internet access and is able to login using ReadyCloud credential but connection to ReadyNAS appears as 'offline'.   ReadyCloud is turned on in ReadyNAS cloud settings.

ReadyNAS shows as online when there is full internet access (in and out) to ReadyNAS.  But we can't allow this access from internet. The PC is allowed access to the internet.

Shouldn't ReadyCloud PC client work locally on the LAN, so we can use the sync feature from internal PCs?  From what I read here on the forums the external readycloud service is required for login and handles metadata only.  What is the inbound internet access dependency for ReadyCloud directly to ReadyNAS?

thanks

Kumar

My understanding is that the NAS itself also needs to remain connected with the ReadyCloud cloud servers.

It would be convenient if you could get all the readycloud features w/o the internet - perhaps with a https://nasname/readycloud URL.  Maybe post that idea in the Ideas exchange?

That doesn't help you now though.  Are you actually wanting 2-way sync, or are you wanting a simple way to back up the PC folders to the NAS?

I am looking at using the ReadyCloud desktop client's Sync feature to backup PC/Laptop folders. The user/laptop connects at random to the network, so that poses some challenge for scheduled backup using ReadyNAS feature.

We can enable ReadyNAS access to ReadyCloud (outbound  only) and we expected ReadyCloud desktop client to work fine on internal network,  but it does not until we grant inbound access from the internet to ReadyNAS.  Just can't understand how the instruction and data flow works between ReadyCloud (external), ReadyCloud Desktop client (internal) and ReadyNAS (internal) .

      thanks

I don't think ReadyCloud is really intended for what you want to do.  You'll likely get better results with a PC backup program that can output to network shares.  I use Acronis Trueimage myself, but there are other choices.  These also can encypt the files on the NAS.
