ReadyCloud PC client with ReadyNAS setup for local LAN only

I am looking at using the ReadyCloud desktop client's Sync feature to backup PC/Laptop folders. The user/laptop connects at random to the network, so that poses some challenge for scheduled backup using ReadyNAS feature.
We can enable ReadyNAS access to ReadyCloud (outbound only) and we expected ReadyCloud desktop client to work fine on internal network, but it does not until we grant inbound access from the internet to ReadyNAS. Just can't understand how the instruction and data flow works between ReadyCloud (external), ReadyCloud Desktop client (internal) and ReadyNAS (internal) .

I don't think ReadyCloud is really intended for what you want to do. You'll likely get better results with a PC backup program that can output to network shares. I use Acronis Trueimage myself, but there are other choices. These also can encypt the files on the NAS.
Appreicate your suggestion to use alternate software. But the question I wanted answered here is whether ReadyCloud service needs inbound access to ReadyNAS device for local LAN installed Readycloud desktop client to function.

I don't work for Netgear, so I don't have access to specs - but I believe ReadyCloud always needs the NAS to be connected to the ReadyCloud servers, whether you are local or not. That's why I don't think ReadyCloud will do what you want.
I also believe the connection itself is always outbound (NAS->ReadyCloud) to simplify NAT/firewall traversal.
If the client app is local, the data itself should be sent directly to the NAS, and not via the Cloud server. But I don't think you can enforce that, since the VPN tunnel is opaque to you.
