If you use FTP, you will also need to specify a smaller range of passive ports in the NAS, and then forward them in the router.
4 passive ports are enough for me. The port numbers you pick should be in the range 49152-65535.
FWIW, with firefox you can easily add an exception to eliminate the warning. I use both firefox and chrome, and with chrome I just click through it.
