Add Drive to RN 102
I have a RN 102, with one 4TB drive. The Volume screen says both 'Type: JBOD' [left side] & 'RAID (RAID 1)' [under the drive image]. I assume I'm in mode 'Flex-Raid' as I get a message 'You are atemping to switch from Flex-Raid...' when i press the X-Raid button.
I have a 2nd 4TB drive that I want use in RAID 1 mode along side the 1st disk - How do I do it? The manual is tough to follow. It looks like there is no upgrade path without loosing all your data. The 30 day Vault storage isnt big enough to use temporarly.
Hi jj2523,
Adding a disk for your protection on your JBOD volume converts it to RAID 1. That additional disk provides redundancy so if one of the disks dies, your data is still intact.
You may refer to the table on page 38 of the software manual for reference as well.
(Note: RAID is not enough to keep your data safe. You should also have other backup plans to keep them safe.)
Regards,

Hi jj2523,
Welcome to the Community!
May I know the current firmware of the NAS? You should be able to add the 2nd 4TB disk and use it as RAID 1 with the existing disk by using 'Add Parity' option under the Volume Settings. You may check this link for more information regarding this.

Does not adding Parity just give me one bit protection, I was looking for the 2nd disk to be a full copy so that should either disk die I still have a copy. Or am i misunderstanding 'Add Parity'
