Addons and Genie and Future

Hello Guys,

I put all my addons at $0 - 0€ on Genie store.

I can't change certain price for old arm app but all app are at $0 0€ now

I'm also thinking on leaving the Genie program/Market which is too restrictive for us.

I don't know how Netgear will react but since the begining I'm thinking on this solution to go back to previous system, where addons should be free and people donate if they like the addons

I don't know what will be the future, but I could also decide to stop making addons

You can find all my addons in a drop box : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ie9pwk1wut72ias/p6_X2QeOIC

If you don not have dropbox installed use this link to install it, so I will have more space to share addons : http://db.tt/v4mPZg7l

  • I'm sure there are many internal email threads at NTGR on these forum posts. Why they decide not to communication to show some level of care, is beyond me.
  • @ihartley, I agree, entirely. Just being light hearted for super-poussin, and his generosity.

I too am disappointed that Netgear don't see the big picture. Trying to charge a few dollars for functionality I expect from a NAS, way undermines the investment of buying their NAS in the first place. If it matters that much, charge another $30 on the list price, rather than keep nibbling away here and there.
  • @ahpsi: I think you'll need to recalculate

It looks like the page now has less apps on it (39), or did I miscalculate based on what was there on Wedsnesday?

    Super,

Thank you for all you have done and devolped. I am sure I can speak for the rest of the community - we would hate to see you go, it just wouldn'd be the same without you.

I agree, Netgear needs to change the way things aer going and let it be open and free. They will loose all of the developers and customer at the rate they are going.

    +1.

Netgear need to take a step back and have a serious re-think. Their actions over the past few years have not served to increase the customer base, brand loyalty or profits. All they've succeeded to do is bite the hand that feeds them, and alienate the very communities that have gotten them where they are to begin with. The situation that exists in the ReadyNAS division is mirrored right across the business. It's a corrosive attitude that will ultimately lead to them losing market share to their competitors who DO reach out and embrace the community that is their target market. They'll be lucky to to continue to be a major player if it continues.

    My 2p.
  • Just curious, how does letting developers set their own prices change it being open and free? Seems to me if all the apps are available from one place it's easier for the customer! Of course everything has to WORK right, but I don't see how they are biting the hand that feeds them.
  • I hate the Genie Marketplace! I have been trying to re-install the subsonic add-in for days. It shows installed in the marketplace, but never actually installs onto the ReadyNAS NV+v2. Is there any chance of getting hold of a subsonic .bin for ARM so I could end my misery with the Genie and install it manually? Everyone always says Genies will try to outsmart you! PS. I wound up having to purchase the add-in again under another account because the original account is so screwed up.
