Wordpress requires newer php
Followed the tutorial here: http://www.readynas.com/?p=213
Only to end up with the following error:
Your server is running PHP version 5.2.0-8+etch16 but WordPress 3.3.1 requires at least 5.2.4.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou'll need to remove that PHP and install a community add-on that meets or exceeds the WordPress requirements
Have you loaded data on the unit yet?
If not, or if you haven't loaded much it might be simplest to backup your data, do a factory default and start over. - DashuAspirantThanks for your help!
I have loaded lots of data on the unit, have had it for some time and just recently wanted to move my blog to it.
Would it mess things up if I were to uninstall the php that I installed and then use the community addon? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou need to be quite careful to uninstall it and remove any files for it that might get left behind. If it's not done right you might lose Frontview access (though this can be fixed via SSH). However if you used e.g. WhoCares?'s add-on if you have problems you could ask him for assistance and he might be able to suggest a few places you may have missed or even possibly provide remote assistance (e.g. using TeamViewer - a remote assistance app where you share the screen so you can see what he's doing to fix a problem).
- DashuAspirantAll I did was:
apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5
apt-get install php5-mysql
Was do you think of doing:
#apt-get --purge package
#apt-get clean
Would that be safe? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat looks like what you should try. That should work.
- DashuAspirantSeems to not break the frontview : )
I removed the packages in reverse to how they were installed:
apt-get remove --purge php5-mysql
apt-get clean
Then:
apt-get remove --purge libapache2-mod-php5
apt-get clean
Checked frontview and it was still working. I then went and bought:
PHP 5.3.8 for ReadyNAS x86 released and installed this only to be presented with
Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress.
Any knowledge about this? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you ensured MySQL option is checked in Frontview for this add-on.
Are you running ReadyNAS Photos II? If not, could you try the MYSQLON (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=22853) add-on? - WhoCares_MentorTry re-installing the PHP add-on again without uninstalling it first. This issue is due to an older PHP install having been present on the NAS before installing the PHP add-on.
-Stefan - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSo no need for MYSQLON?
- WhoCares_MentorDifferent problem. When PHP reports the mysql(i) extension to be missing, it's most likely a problem with the PHP add-on install. If, however, it reports to be unable to connect to the MySQL database, then one of the possible causes is that MySQL isn't running. That of course can be fixed using MySQLOn.
