4200 LACP with GS108T
I've successfully enabled LACP between the GS108T with my Server 2012 box and confirm that the connection is 2Gbe. I tried to do the same thing for the NAS but the hour clock just keeps on going and now my NAS is no long accessible. Raidar detects only one of the ethernet port but it's still not accessible.
I simply went to the interface and select LACP and clicked apply.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhich version of the GS108T do you have?
I see from a previous post you have a 4200 v2.
Which interface did you go to? The interface for the NAS or the interface for the switch or both? - Yes, I have a 4200 V2, I have 2 cables coming from the GS108T V2 port 3 and 4 configured for LACP on the switch. Went to the NAS and went to interface 1 and selected LACP from the drop down menu and click apply and now I'm locked out. :(
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTry an OS Re-install. That will reset the network settings on the 4200.
- yup, I did that the 1st time around and go back, tried again and same thing
- i think it did it, it took a good 15 minutes. the nas just flickered and I guess rebooted itself made some crazy beep so I ran raidar again, this time it found both NICs. I'm now able to log into front view and saw that the interface shows 2Gbe.
never mind, Raidar now only see one IP address. :) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTwo different I.P. addresses?
- well, the 1st time around it picked up 2 address now there's only one. So we're good.
But now I'm not impressed. between my server and the nas on the same switch nothing else but an uplink into the LAN I'm only getting 65Mbps? From my HTPC down stairs, I was getting 107Mbps before LACP. Between the server and the nas both have LACP, shouldn't I be getting better transfer speed?
Just tested from the HTPC and I'm still getting 105ish transfer speed so that's fine there. Must be my server but it still doesn't make any sense right now. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat disks do you have installed and how many?
Each client is not likely to more than max out a gigabit network connection. But with multiple client devices there should be a performance benefit compared with only having the one. - right now I only have a WD Green WD10EAVS in there.
HTPC/Server = Avg 83Mbps R/W
Server/NAS = Avg 62Mbps R/W
HTPC/NAS = Avg 108Mbps R/W
The only difference I can see is the Server board only have a Sata II while the HTPC has Sata III but I don't think that's the main culprite because between the server and the HTPC I'm getting 20Mbps more and it's on cheap consumer switches.
But the Server and the NAS both 2Gbe LACP so it should be faster. I have no complaints about the HTPC since it's only a Gbe connection and at the speed, I think that's saturated already. But I'm not even getting that on the server which has 2Gbe connection. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWD Green drives are not suitable for use in the 4200. You should be using enterprise disks in that model.
You should check performance with multiple disks installed after the sync has completed.
With one disk installed you can't expect the performance you would get with an array with say 6 disks for example.
