adding SSD to my existing ReadyNAS 3220

 Hi All,

I have a old readynas  with 4 HDDs 6TB each,When the NAS was built X-Raid was turned On. as shown in screenshot.

Now I want to add 8 more SSD ( Samsung 512 gb 860 Pro) to create a separate cluster with raid 5.

I just added 1 and want to check if I can access the same device.

But its just giving me option to expand the existing raid. but does not allow me to create a separate cluster which i want.

Also if i turn off the X-RAID, will my exiting 4 disk raid will be impacted??

Please help..

Thanks in advance...

X-RAID only handles a single volume, so you need to turn it off.  You'll then be able to select the SSD from the center graphic, and create a second volume.  Once you've confirmed that it works ok,  I suggest deleting that volume and then inserting the remaining disks.  Then select the disks, and create the RAID mode you want.

The original volume won't be affected.

Yes, it will affect your current volume.  Specifically, how it can expand.  It will no longer do so automatically (since it won't know which volume wou want the drive added to) and it also eliminates incremental vertical expansion (though I have posted an article in the forum on how to do that via SSH).  Automatic replacement of a failed drive is still supported (though it may first need formatting).

Well, it will affect your future options for expansion.  But it will not affect your data.
