APC Backup-UPS ES 400

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows if this UPS, APC Backup-UPS ES 400, is recognised with the ReadyNAS. On the compatibility list, Back-UPS ES 500, is mentioned as being ok. I presume there is a USB connection on these to enable it to connect to the USB on the UPS?

Thanks

MT

  • It is difficult to tell. In the US, the BE350G does not connect to a computing device to shut it down normally (no data port) but the BE450G does. Are you in a position to actually go and look at one? If it has the data port and the PowerChute software included than it is highly likely that it will be recognized. The data port may be a USB B female socket (squarish) or an RJ50 10 pin modular socket. This is not the RJ45 ethernet type connecter but slightly bigger. If it has an RJ50 socket, it should have a RJ50 to USB A cable with it in the package with the CD. The PowerChute software is not needed on a ReadyNAS, but the port in the UPS and the cable is.

The data port should be located on the end with the power cord and right below the two RJ11 telephone/network connectors. These are designed to be used between the DSL filter and the modem. (If you lose the connection, check the RJ11 modular cables, they must be 4 wire, not 2 wire). If it does not have the data port, it will not work automatically.
  • Thanks for the reply.

I can't tell from the spec. I've been looking for that dats port but there doesn't seem to be any mention of it. Here's the spec for it: http://www.ebuyer.com/113906-apc-back-u ... s-be400-uk. I checked on the APC site, http://www.apc.com/products/resource/in ... _watts=200, and there is no software or cable.

However, if I got to the next one, http://www.ebuyer.com/196269-apc-back-u ... -be550g-uk, then this one does have software and a cable. Again, checking on the APC site, http://www.apc.com/products/resource/in ... _watts=200, it seems to confirm it.

So, it looks as it has to be the 550 which is also on the compatibility list. I think I'll give it a try and report back.
  • Go for the APC Back-UPS 550 its only about £9.00 more and definatly has the data port
  • Following the link to the APC site, clicking on the documentation tab and downloading the manual, shows an image with the data port identified. It should work fine. The smaller units probably don't have the data port because they don't have enough reserve to keep a PC and monitor up until it can have the files closed and be shut down normally.
  • Thanks for all the replies. I shall buy the APC Back-UPS 550.

    Regards
