Can I use 8TB HDD
Question, I have several ReadyNASRNDX400E, and would like to use 8TB HDD (or larger), in particular, Seagate Archive HDD 8TB SATA 6GBps 128MB Cache SATA Hard Drive (ST8000AS0002)
using RAID?
Is that Posible?
Thanks

The archive disks aren't really suitable for NAS use, your write performance would be awful I think.
As far as size of disks goes, you could use 8 th disks, but bear in mind the 16 tb volume limit on 4.2.x firmware, this would mean you would need to factory default with the entire volume in place if the volume size was going to exceed 16 tb.
I am using the 8tb drives from @ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BBKYNJG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
on my pro 6 (running os 6, not 4.x) without any issues thus far.
I also would not recommend the archive drives unless poor write performance is not an issue, but I also have actual experience with their performance.
Personally I would recommend upgrading to an OS6 device, and if you want to test the archive disks, buy 1 first before buying a whole set.
If you did buy a new nas, you could then use old one as a backup device (transfer data to new device, then create a backup job from new nas to old nas).
remember, Neither raid, nor nas is a backup in of itself. Backups = multiple copies of your data in separate physical devices and ideally in separate locations (ie to protect from theft/fire/flood/etc).

The NVX has a 32-bit CPU. The 16TB volume size limit is a hard limit on our 32-bit x86 devices.
I too would recommend getting new OS6 units if wanting to use 8TB disks and perhaps using your NVX to backup important data from the new NAS.
- mopgcwAspirantit is not too difficult to updgrade your cpu, ram to enable OS6 effectively that would allow you to run the 8tb drives. nice weekend project. on the archive drives, it does depend on what you want to use the NAS primarily for. if just archival storage....or lots of read/writes media box etc. good luck. best. george

I don't think you can replace the CPU in the NVX. Well even if you could I wouldn't see the point.
