Can I use drives fron one Pro in another Pro?
I've got some drives all set up and ready to go with double redundancy in a Pro, but now (for reasons I won't bore you with) I want to put the same drives in a different Pro (clearly, in the same order), and hope that the new Pro will accept the old Pro's drives and carry on as though nothing had changed.
Does anyone know, will that work, or is some kind of ID inserted onto the drives when they are striped that would prevent a new Pro being able to work with the old Pro's drives? Or some other reason it wouldn't work?
Thanks
Peter

- chirpaLuminaryYes that will work fine. Configuration is stored on the disks, so the other Pro would take on same hostname and such.
- peter2011AspirantThanks chirpa
Do I just put them cold in a new unit before ever switching on the unit, and then switch on?
What if the new unit doesn't have the same Raidiator version, what will happen then?

Yes, see: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_anotherpeter2011 wrote:

That is a good point. Best to put a spare disk (must not be from your array) in the replacement NAS and check that the firmware is at least as new as the firmware on the old unit. You can update the firmware on the replacement unit, verify the update is successful, then power down, remove the spare disk and then migrate your array across.
Attempting to migrate an array running 4.2.16 (or later) to a system with 4.2.15 or older firmware on the flash is not a good idea. So checking the firmware is up to date in the replacement unit is strongly recommended. - peter2011AspirantThat's great thanks - I'll let you get back to your Christmas.
