Provided you can install and use the necessary packages that should work fine, assuming the disks other than the dedicated parity disk are all fine.
What problem happened with your NV+ v1?

I received an error message that it needed to be resynced, started to back up my files ASAP that night, in the morning the files were no longer accessable and unit was frozen. I tried to reset, it tried to resync but got stuck on 71% for hours.
Removed the hard drives, connected themto a PC and started running the manufacturer test. 3 out of 4 disks passed and only 1 shows up as having any problems on the tool( Disk #3) It passed the "ReadErrorCheck" however failed the " SmartSelfTest" whatever that means.
One of the drives which passed both test at one point started making clicking sounds and sounded like it was reading over the same area mutlie times.(Drive #4)
So is the offending drive the one that made the clicking sounds but passed all the test or the one that failed the " SmartSelfTest" on the manufacurers tool?
I don't suppose I can just boot up the device with 3 out of 4 drives and just remove one drive at a time( disk 3 or 4) until I see something that works?
Please let me know if you have any sugestions?
Thanks.

It could be that both those disks have issues. This sounds like a problem with your disks not with the chassis. It sounds like a data recovery situation.
So you don't have an up to date backup?
