connecting apc cs-650 to readynas duo
hi,
after finbding my house in the dark, because of a powerdown, and also a nas down, i want to buy a apc ups. but while i am looking at the site of apc, there are a lot of cables optional for conncting both via usb. is there anybody who can give me som tips??
and i understand it is just plug the cable to both units, make some changes in the settings of the nas, and all will work?

You need to connect the power supply that came with the ReadyNAS to the UPS (it cannot replace the readynas supply).Siege wrote: Well the power supply just goes directly into the ReadyNas (one lead)
So I guess I need to find a 12v round DC-IN to RC adapter?!
I cant find one....
Does that little slit above the power socket do anything on the ready nas? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWell with my Duo v2, the external power brick has a detachable cable connected to it. If there is a detachable cable with a wall plug on it ideally replace this cable to the wall socket with a cable that has the appropriate connector on the end. Otherwise you'll have to find an adapter for the plug that goes into the wall socket.

Yes that is what I am also trying to say...mdgm wrote: Well with my Duo v2, the external power brick has a detachable cable connected to it. Looking at his posts, I suspect Siege is thinking he connects the v2 directly to the UPS (with no brick). - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWell from Siege's picture he has a v1. I don't know if those are different in this regard. I would suggest he removes the picture as it appears to show the serial number for his unit.
All the 2-bay units have an external power brick. The new NV+ v2 (4-bay) also has an external power brick. The other ReadyNAS units would be much easier to connect to his UPS as they would only need a IEC C13 to IEC C14 cable. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFortunately my CyberPower UPS lets me connect AC power plugs directly, making it very simple to connect a duo.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeI guess the European market UPS devices don't use the standard European market plugs as the North American market does, which is strange.
- Siege1AspirantThanks for your help people
ok, I think the problem is I dont have a "brick"
I have a power adapter that plus directly from the wall into the NAS (it looks like a phone charger, or a router power socket)
I guess I could buy a different power "brick" ?
Thats not my own NAS BTW, its just a picture I found on the net. So dont worry about the serial number.
pic of what my power lead looks like
- Siege1Aspirantfound a thread where somebody had the same problem
