Considering Upgrade

The transcoding to the iPad is kind of iomportant to me now. I have an app on the iPad which allows me to browse and play media from my NV+ but some of the bigger HD files are stuttery while watching, especially during the fast moving action scenes. Would the RNDP6000-200 allow me to stream these at a lower resolution as well?
It's a pitty I can't just swap the disks over as it means I will need to purchase some new drives for the new box, making the old ones redundant not too big issue I suppose. I'm guessing the backup is a lonbg proceedure which I would just need to leave running unattended for a number of days.
