Disk failed - brand new disk

I have a ReadyNas NV+ with the following:

Hostname: RND4000
Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043]
Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
Volume C: Online, X-RAID, 4 disks, 90% of 4168 GB used

The log file stated the following:
"Reallocated sector count has increased in the last day. Disk 1: Previous count: 183 Current count: 190 Disk 4 did not pass SMART self-assessment test. Please replace this disk as soon as possible. Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk."

I replaced disk 4 which was a Seagate ST31500341AS 1397 GB with a brand new Western Digital Green 2TB 3.5" SATA III - WD20EARX and now the read out on the front panel reads that disk 4 failed. The light on disk 4 is flashing green every second.

The health screen in RAIDar shows the following:
Disk 1 Seagate ST31500341AS 1397 GB , 44 C / 111 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2 Seagate ST31500341AS 1397 GB , 48 C / 118 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 3 Seagate ST32000542AS 1862 GB , 41 C / 105 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 4 WDC WD20EARX-32PASB0 1862 GB Dead

Again - disk 4 was brand new. What do I need to do to get the 4th disk to a status of OK?

Thank you for any help.

Remove disk 4, update the firmware then after verifying the update completed successfully add disk 4 again while the NAS is on.

I do not recommend using WD Green disks. Return it and get a WD RED. The disk could be D.O.A.
  • Thank you mdgm - that seems to be working. The disk is initializing now after the firmware upgrade. Many - many thank yous.
