Does File Search impact Explorer speeds?
On our ReadyNAS machines, we have File Search, Content Indexing, and Indexing Numbers all enabled. I believe that these being enabled could be causing some issues with performance, although I am not totally sure. I was wondering if these options being checked did anything other than enable us to use the search bar in the top right of the machines' respective web portals. If File Search doesn't impact the NAS's ability to serve folders and files to Windows Explorer clients, we have little reason to keep it on. One of our NAS machines actually does not have File Search enabled and I did not notice any difference in speed opening folders and files on client machines between it and a NAS that did have them enabled, but I wanted to make sure first.
Thanks

File Search will add some load to the NAS (Disk I/O, Memory, and some CPU), so it can degrade overall performance.
It will integrate with macOS search, but not with Windows. https://kb.netgear.com/000045492/ReadyNAS-OS-6-8-File-Search
So if you are a Windows shop, and don't need to search in the web interface, you might as well turn the feature off.
