Does NV+ work with Windows 7 64 bit?

Whilst it should work fine with your Windows OS on the latest firmware, if you've only just purchased it I'd be inclined to return it and buy a newer model. A newer model supports 3TB drives, includes a much newer version of samba (Linux project used for Windows file sharing) and is a much more future proof option.

I have had not problems with mine. However, I use it as a standard file server. You should create a user id and password on the PC running Win 7, and the first time you attempt to connect to frontview you will get a request to create an exemption to the Windows firewall. It is not difficult, all you have to do is approve the exception.

Most of my applications (Word, Excel, Quicken, etc) connect directly to the files on the NAS via shares mapped as drive letters. When I first set up my Win 7 installs on my machines (upgrades to Vista which was very similar) the files were on my NV+, but they are now on my NVX, but it is similar (NV+ in a backup mode).

You have to remember the v1 is an evolutionary improvement over a product (the NV) which was released 6 years ago and as the NV+ (v1) has now been discontinued NetGear no longer produces models running the firmware that the NV+ (v1) runs. It works with Windows 7 now but there's no guarantee that it'll work well with a newer version of Windows once that comes out. It depends what updates are possible for the units and what the increased requirements (if any) are of Windows 8 over Windows 7.
