Hard Disk Issues
Hi All,
I could really use some helpful advice, and would appreciate any feedback
I've got a Readynas Ultra 6 Plus.
Currently I've got it populated with 6x Seagate ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green 3.5-inch 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s Drive (64MB Buffer,5900RPM)
And last night I've had yet another disk failure, this is my 3rd failure in 7 months. So I'm hoping its not a faulty NAS, my problem is now I've contacted Amazon to try and get a replacement drive and I've been told Amazon don't have any more of this particular disk in stock, so my question is can I buy any old 2TB disk to replace the faulty one. Since I'm having such bad luck with Seagate I'm thinking of trying a Western Digital, would anyone see a problem with me putting one of these disks in with my other 5x Seagate's ?
Western Digital 2TB SATA 6Gbps Power Saving Internal Hard Drive OEM - Caviar Green
Any thoughts ? Incidentally I'm on the latest firmware on my NAS

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredGet any 2TB disk from the Hard Disk HCL. If you choose a disk outside this disk NetGear can and will deny support.
- Vyper007AspirantCheers for the info, it appears the model of the drive I was gonna buy isn't on the list, does that mean the drive definetly wont work, or that the drive may still work but its not tested by Netgear ?
Also this is the 3rd drive failure I've had now in 7 months, surely all these drives cant be that bad, could my ReadyNas be the actual issue, what can I do to test it ? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired

It could mean either of those. Either way, NetGear can and will deny support if you choose to use a disk outside the list.Vyper007 wrote:

SeaGate has recently admitted there's a firmware issue with these drives that they have a test firmware to address. I'd be inclined to blame this model drive. However if you get the same issues with a different model drive then I'd suspect a problem with the NAS chassis. - Charles_RAspirant

Frankly, I have contacted support on two occasions and on one they attempted to deny support even though my drive model was supported. They refused to believe my NV+ v2 was a NV+ v2 (going as far to say the wrong model was placed in the box)... since it wasn't stamped v2 on the back. Never mind the NV+ v2 logo on the front along with other provable evidence. Once I sort of got past that by going up the line the end result was "No, I can't analyze or determine why you are having an issue" They offered let's see if it happens again... quite the support and if it did it again "I wouldn't be able to analyze why."
The second wasn't any better so unless I'm missing some thing I can't see losing support as an actual lose. I documented my main issue in another thread so I won't repeat myself here but I really think the compatible hard drive list needs to be addressed. Also, as I mentioned in another post my model lists 21 drives and if swapping drives doesn't resolve my issues the competitor I'll be swapping for lists well over 150 drives. Hopefully, they aren't removed from the list after you purchased them too. :)
