You just made the case that the ST3000DM001 is not similar to the ST33000651AS as they have different platters. This is similar to what WD did with the WD20EARS and that created all sorts of havoc (at least Seagate had the honesty to change model numbers which WD did not). One day last week I was looking at hard drives on Newegg and there were only two listed with capacities of 3TB. Today at least the count is up to 8.
