HD WD 3Tb not accepted
Greetings, So I have a recent WD 3 TB Green Sata 64MB model 30EZRX obviously it is not in the HCL for my ReadyNas 104 (4 bays). The NAS correctly identifies the HD, it is clickable in the web adm...

You can't expand a volume consisting of 4TB drives by adding a smaller 3TB drive. You can disable X-RAID and create a new volume on the 3TB drive, but you cannot add a smaller drive to an existing RAID array.

I noticed that mistake also, but he said he also tried a factory reset (which of course should have worked).

Thank you both for looking into this.
Indeed I after my initial fail, I did a complete factory reset, the only thing is I can't remember if I did the reset with only the 4TB X 2 and then added the 3TB or if I did it with the 3 drive in there.
I did however consult the HD placement "simulator" allowing you to try various configuration online and did not get any flags.
Did the log yield anything valid?

You would need the 3TB disk in the NAS when doing the factory reset. As mentioned you can't add smaller disks to expand a volume.

Yes. Also the RAID calculators don't let you game "start with A, want to get to B". They show what you end up with if you are starting clean - but not if you can get there from your current volume configuration.
