Health Status changed to Degraded NAS

I updated my firmware and the Health status changed to degraded.  I also lost one of the two hardrives.   My data does show up.

I am not sure how to get the status back to Healthy?

What NAS?  What firmware was it running, and what is it running now?

Your first step is to make a backup.

Hi;   This sysemt won't let me include the Model number in the designated box.  I type it in but it doesn't show up.  I have a Ready NAS 102 and the firmware is up to date.  This change in health status happened after the update.

Could you test the drive in a windows PC (either SATA or using a USB->SATA adapter).  Use Seatools for a seagate drive, Lifeguard for a Western Digital drive.

Wait for the backup to finish...

  • Dear Pamkrd:

Welcome to the community.  As StephenB suggested, if your data is critical you should make a backup right away.

The "Unhealthy" state is due to the fact that you appear to have lost one of your drives.  If this is a two drive system, the loss of one drive means that you have no built-in redundency, thus the "Unhealthy"state.

Do you know which drive is "lost"?  If so, the first thing I would suggest is to remove the drive from the ReadyNAS slot and reinstall it.  That may reseat it at which point the ReadyNAS will resync the data across the two drives.  You should also see a message at the top of the Administrator page telling you that the ReadyNAS is resyncing the data.  During that time, the Status will still show Unhealthy but that will change when the resync is complete.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    David

Hi;   Thank you for that advice.   The first drive is now showing as a blank when I look at the system Overview.   I was not aware that I should back up the NAS unit and I will do that today.  Then I will remove that first drive as you suggested and reinstall it to see if that helps  The change in that drive happened after I did the recent firmware upgrade.   I will let you know if this doesn't work.   Thank you for your help.
