Help! One of the rear USB is not responding

Hello,
I have ReadyNAS NV+ RND4000 unit, there are 2 USB ports at back, bought it on 2010 Christmas. I recently bought a UPS and try to plug it in along with my printer at back. Found out the bottom USB is not responding.

1. If I plug external HDD / Flash drive, both light indicate shows there is power coming in, however the NAS will not recognize it.
2. I tried clean it up (compressed air), still no response.
3. It will not recognize my print or UPS, however the other port next to it works fine and dandy for everything.

Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.12

Much appreciated if someone could help resolve this issue.

I cannot help with the broken port, but you can work around the problem: Just plug a powered USB hub (with an external power supply) into the other port and then plug all your devices -- flash drives, UPS, printer, etc. -- into the hub.
  • So the port is broken? It still gives power?

Thank you for your quick response!

I do not know. I guess I should have written "I have no idea why the port appears to be broken" rather than "I cannot help with the broken port".

Also the NAS does have a 3 year warranty so if you bought it brand new you could contact support and if they confirm the port is broken see about getting a refurbished replacement unit if you want.
  • I see, that's a good idea, thanks for your help again. So if I do get a refurb replacement, will I be able to keep all the data in there?

Oh, and one more thing... If you use a USB hub, make sure that the hub's external power supply is plugged into the UPS.
  • If you get a replacement unit you should be able to just move your disks into the new unit while its off and you'll be ok. Note it's advisable to set up the new unit with a spare disk first and get the firmware updated, then power down and insert your old disks.
For a small fee you can get an advance RMA unit to minimise downtime.
