Help! ReadyNAS 104 Transfer rate
Hi Guys
I wonder if someone can help me please. i have just got a ready nas 104. i have 2 WD Reds 4Tb installed in it. Running the latest firmware on the NAS.
my transfer rates seem a bit slow, the router and switch are gigabit the cable is cat5e 350Mhz, when transferring 1Gb through FTP (filezilla) or through the network share in windows 7 it takes nearly 2 minutes but if i connect to the NAS through my browser (Chrome) the same file takes 40 seconds also an 8 Gb file takes 5 minutes through the web browser, which seems pretty good. So it can’t be the cable, router or switch slowing this down.
So I am asking, why would the browser be a lot faster than using filezilla of a share folder in windows ?
regards
john

Hello woto,
Welcome to the community!
May I ask what firmware version are you running on the NAS?
If you have AntiVirus enabled, try disabling it and see if the same performance.

Hello woto,
I suppose that is 6.4.1
Do you any other app running on the NAS?
Please also try turning SMB off then on and see if the same slow performance.
There is also 6.4.2-T59 (Beta 1) available that you can try.

Just to let you know, sorted the problem. Did a lot more testing with laptops and PCs that I get hold of, I was finding a pattern and its Windows 7 is slowing it down, as some of the tests I did were on Windows 10. So I upgraded mine to 10 and now I am getting around 68Mb/s that's mapping a network drive so I think it's using SMB protocol but if I transfer using FTP with FileZilla I only get 15Mb/s
So I presume that's the fastest it will go. I also tried connecting a USB3 to it and transferring the data using the web portal but unfortunately it doesn't say the transfer rate, I don't suppose any one knows that speed ? I do know the speed of USB3 but it does very from device to device.

Hi woto,
Thanks for the update and we're glad that you have finally sorted out the problem. Anyway, you can measure or check the transfer speed when transferring files from your PC to the attached external USB hard drive on your ReadyNAS if you will do the transfer via File Explorer (drag and drop procedure). You may also want to create a backup job (found on the admin page) and it also transfer files in a faster manner.
Let us know if you have further questions.
Kind regards,
BrianL
