HITACHI Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 (0F12117)
Has anyone tried these? I'm looking into the upgrading my NAS and I'm limited to 512k sectors unless I want to do a factory reset, which would be an unbelievable amount of work given the disk juggling I'd have to do.
I've been leaning to the lower teir of the Hitachi 2TB drives on the HCL, but I'm concerned about temperatures and I don't care about performance so these drives sound like a better solution.
TIA

- Dinger928AspirantI'm curious too on this as newegg is currently running them for $60 for this 2TB model. I know its new and the HCL doesn't get updated all that often, but has anyone tried these yet?
- Retired_MemberDitto... anyone????
- tomahawk51AspirantI was successful using 2 in an NV, but I'm having expansion problems beyond 2 (message says drive not big enough?!?). I posted about it, but no input yet...
The drives are great though. Pretty quick. - xcntalienAspirantA US supplier is selling ReadyNAS Ultras here http://www.excaliberpc.com/606150/netgear-readynas-ultra-rndu2000-100nas-2tb.html with these HDS LP drives pre-configured; Note the model and SKU nos; I am then assuming that they're fully supported although I can't see them on the HCL :?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredResellers have been known to put drives in diskless NAS units and ignore the compatibility list before. Only drives on the compatibility list are supported.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeIf you insist on Hitachi compatible drives, go with the HDS722020ALA330 which is $120 each on Newegg. With the Ultra 2 at $300 on Newegg, the full package is $53 more, but you have compatible drives. Or you can go with the Seagate ST2000DL003 which are 5900 RPM drives for $75 each ($450 for the full package of Ultra 2 and 2x2TB drives). Amazon still has some of the Seagate ST32000542AS drives listed, but they are $92 each.
- bakaAspirantI just upgraded from 2x 1TB to 2x 2TB Hitachi Desktars. The raid was rebuilt with no problem. However, the admin console tells me that only 927GB has been allocated and it is 98% filled. How do i allocate the other 927 sitting on the 2TB drive?
Here is a screenshot of my admin console: http://i.imgur.com/rVXUN.png - randymchAspirantI slapped four of the Hitachi HDS5C3020ALA632 2Tb drives into my NV+ (RAIDiator v4.1.7) two months ago and can report everything seems fine to date with 5538Gb of usable storage.
Now up to 45% full and no errors at all (touch wood).
Admittedly this was a completely fresh factory install with the four drives new so no upgrades/expansion. Took about 16 hours to build the redundant X-RAID array.
These are available in the UK for the very reasonable price of £50.80 (+P&P) from CCL Online (Bradford, West Yorkshire):
http://www.cclonline.com/product/57096/ ... e/HDD0539/ - szeAspirantDoes anyone know how, exactly, do hard drives get placed on the compatibility list? The Hitachi 7k3000 is listed but not the 5k3000. I would like to add the 5k3000 Hitachi HDS5C3020ALA632 2Tb to my nv+ also. I currently have Seagate drives in the nv+. Is it ok to mix drives from different manufactures in the nas?

Close as I can figure they look for the most expensive, hardest to find, out production variants from popular manufacturers and when they're availability is at the most limited/expensive they add them to the list.
I have no idea, but I wish they'd get their act together regarding Hitachi. I know there are issues with the merger, but the 2tb 330 is out of production and the replacement isn't certified yet.
