hp officejet K7100

My printer is supposedly compatible with the readynas - it appears on the compatibility list on the netgear site anyway.
however it just doesn't print, the nas recognises the printer but it just holds things in the print queue nothing ever actually prints, this could be a useful thing for me, are there any ways around this issue, i have tried to print from various machines running different operating systems (all of which will work when plugged into the printer directly and all of which have full access to the files on the nas)
I have searched the forums and the only answers others have is that the printer is not on the compatibility list - mine is!

nas running 4.1.8

  • I would assume this is on the Duo listed in your profile. Can I also assume that you installed the printer as a network printer? Had you previously installed the printer as a local printer on the computer?
  • I have had the printer as a local on one machine (windows7) before, then i installed it as a network printer, it would send to the nad print queue from that (I can see it in frontview) - On a new laptop the printer has never been connected, so i installed it fresh on that as a network printer, again same result, can see it fine and send to the queue but no output. On my old laptop running xp it has it installed as a network printer and exactly the same problem.
I tried it through the bonjour thing too
  • Very Strange - when I went to the HP website to look for drivers for the Officejet K7100, the site came back with product not found. When I went to the support and trouble shooting tab, I got the same result. Googling HP Officejet K7100, it had a reference to drivers, which took me to the HP page for the K7100!. For Windows HP 64bit it said to use the drivers in the OS, but there was a patch if upgrading from Vista to Win 7. Very strange. Then I looked at the drivers for XP, and found this:

If that does not work, the only suggestion I can then come up with is to connect it to a PC that you can leave on as a local printer and share it across the network to the other machines or as an alternative find a print server that you can connect to your network.

Not all printers are compatible with the various ReadyNAS units. Some work like a charm, some don't work at all, and some work sporadically. You will note that there is no longer an "official" HCL list for printers. Clicking on printers in the HCL list takes you to the Community Hardware Compatibility List which is simply postings by others who have or have not had success with various printers.

Over the last four years as I have replaced printers, I have gone all network capable printers, mostly ethernet, but one wireless. The latest is an HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-In-One that is now two years old. I replaced an old scanner and HP Inkjet printer and has a smaller footprint and is connected directly to the router. I also serves as my home copier.
  • cheers for the help, i assumed this list was the official one? http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=91
none the less, just annoying that i'm going to have to move the printer around (not that easy to find space for an a3 printer in here!!)
and i will also have to leave a computer on all the time to work as a print server, so basically i could just get a couple of hdd's and put them in that machine and get rid of the readynas altogether!!
  • That is the former official list. You must have had a link to it, as if you go to the ReadyNAS website and then go to support and Compatibility Lists, and click on Printers, it takes you to the forum page.

I looked on Newegg and they have a good selection of wired fast ethernet print servers to USB connected printers. I don't know how well they work however. Most of these will not work with an AIO, but will support basic print functions.
