Inserting a new HDD into Readynas 104 previously used in a PC

Yes, just hot insert it (with the NAS running).
Though it is best to make sure you have an up-to-date backup of the files first.

You will need to select the drive on the volumes tab, and format it in the NAS using the control on the right. Then it will be added to the array.
Many 3 TB desktop drives use SMR technology - which is not a good choice for ReadyNAS systems. I recommend checking that this drive is CMR. If you don't know how to check, you can post the drive manufacturer and model here.
