Lack of upgrade for Ultra 6 devices
I purchased a "high end" home NAS, the Ultra 6+. A vibrant online community with updates and betas were some of the top benefits I saw. First the betas stop, then the releases stop coming nearly as frequently, and now I see that the brand new update isn't even supported on my NAS. Very disappointed.
Any update from anyone at Netgear? Are we Ultra 6+ users getting any new features and updates?
Very disappointed in the lack of updates.

- MDPlattsAspirantI've switched to Asustor - hit them (and me) in the wallet - cost me a packet, but hopefully I'll get quite a bit back from someone for my 4.5TB Ultra4.
- sdchewAspirantYeah I'm disappointed that my Ultra 6+ is not getting Ready OS 6. To think I recommended 2x Pro 6, 1x NVX and another Ultra 6.
Probably switching to Synology. At least they don't seem to screw over their customers when they upgrade software.
Some of the new features of Ready OS 6 might be compelling but I suspect their competition will soon catch up.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD - WeldtiteAspirantI see.... My brand New Ultra 6 is in the mail right now. I Guess I have to Return it. If Netgear does not believe in their own Products why should anyone else?
I actually thougt this was a good and still supported Product. Guess Netgear is closing support for their New Devices in a few years too. Dont they realize People buy this stuff for keeping it? If they did, they would really stand out as reliable. It's not enough With just a sturdy Box. The guys running the show have to understand their coustomers, and keep up support of the stuff they sold two days ago... - beisser1Tutoruhm. the ultra 6 is still beeing supported? with 4.2.23 released just the other day?
just because it doesnt get os6 doesnt mean its not supported anymore? - WeldtiteAspirantSo you think this would be a good NAS for a few years to come? I am quite New to this, and this is my first NAS unit. I would be happy for some advice on this :)
- chirpaLuminaryIt's already been said 'EOL' by support folks: viewtopic.php?p=389766#p389766
With the new 100,300,500 series out, it is clearly EOL. Yes, hardware warranty is still there for the next 3/5 years. But software won't see any enhancements, at most some maintenance fixes like 4.2.23 was (which seem to be done by Skywalker in between tight resources for the new products).
If you got it at a discount compared to the RN316, keep it around, it does serve a purpose and gets the job done. If the price was pretty close to the RN316, I would look at returning it and exchange it for something that will have attention and get software updates over the next few years. - WeldtiteAspirantWell... the difference in price between the ultra 6 and a RN316 is about 350 us$ I am going to use this at home. I am not an expert in this regard and ease of use is allso important. Will the hardware hold for steaming when I buy a New 3D TV? Do I really need USB 3.0 when I can use the ones on my PC, and use the network? Will I as a home user ever need eSata? I am not a very Advanced prosumer, just need to stream some Movies, store the Family Pictures, and give Access to this for my kids when they stay With their mother. Will I be content With the Ultra 6, or am I in trouble if I try to stream a 3D film? ... 350 dollars?
- chirpaLuminaryUltra 6 will steam HD to TV just fine.
- The ultra will stream HD without difficulty. What you won't see is new functionality.
- btaroliProdigyAnd don't be in too big of a hurry to get ROS6. It's still got some pretty sharp edges to it. Even as of 6.0.6 I can crash an RN516 with a handful of rsync backup jobs and Timr Machine backups, during initial setup. Yes, the volume sync was still running then. I was nice and waited for it to finish. But even then, I came home the next day to find systemd (background process) had puked and box was hung after the jobs had been running for several hours.
So yes, it's the latest and greatest. But that sometimes comes with some pain too. ;)
