I've seen a few posts about ReadyCloud alternatives, but most seem to be focused on accessing shares remotely. I don't need to access the shares, but I do need to be able to access the NAS GUI to do firmware updates, setup users, etc. Is anyone else doing that with something other than ReadyCloud? Thanks.

The system is designed to install the arm firmware when you migrate x86-arm (though I think Netgear spent more time on the arm->x86 direction). But that process can't migrate the apps. Did you have any apps installed on the RN314? It's also possible that the RN314 failure did some damage to the OS. Either way, the best process is to back up all the files using SMB. (\\NAS-01). Then do a fresh factory install with the RN104. That will reformat the disks, so you'll need to reconfigure the RN104, and then restore the files from your backup.

Are you saying you want to do that remotely???

If you are on the same network, just browse to https://nas-ip-address/admin or https://nas-name/admin (using the real IP address or hostname of course).

If you want to access the web admin ui remotely, there are three options:

create a secondary https port in the NAS setup, and forward that port to your NAS from your router

use an inbound VPN (like openVPN) if that is available in your router.

user ZeroTier

(1) and (2) would also need DDNS so you could connect with a URL instead of an IP address.

(2) and (3) offer the best security.

  In general, the same solutions for remote share access will also allow administration of the NAS via the "local" (local WRT the VPN) admin GUI, and even SSH. I was recently out of town for about a month and routinely logged into my NAS' admin page using ZeroTier as the VPN to make sure all was OK and my granddaughter could continue having access to her media. I saw the NAS shut down after a power failure went on for as long as the UPS could hold and trhat it came back up with no issues when power was restored. I used that same connection to download files to my laptop for my local viewing (my home internet is too slow uploading for watching directly from the NAS w/o buffering) and to keep certain financial data up to date. My financial data is in a VeraCrypt container, and that worked fine over ZeroTier, too (as I would expect it to for other VPN solutions).

    Also, if you have an always-on PC, you can use something like google desktop to access the PC, and the open a browser on that PC. From there, just log into the NAS.

  How do you setup ZeroTier on an RN314? Is it an app you setup on the NAS?

    I tried loading "nastools-zerotier-one_1.1.14-nt3_amd64.deb" onto my RN314 with OS 6.10.8. It fails to load each time. I updated the Plex app to be sure it would work and it did. There is a newer version of the app but it is not 64 compatible.
    
    Am I doing something wrong?
