MGE (Eaton) Ellipse 600 USBS

If it was new, you should have returned it. However, I have a UPS on my entertainment setup so that for short outages I don't have to reset everything. We had just a blip the other evening, but it was enough to knock off the clocks on the microwave and oven. Fortunately, the clock radio and alarm clocks all have small internal batteries to keep them set (no display of course).

Update:

The USB-Chip inside the Ellipse 600 is damaged. I buyed another Ellipse 1000 WITH origin. USB-Cable, this UPS with original USB-Cable works at the first Time of connect amazing. The NAS has recognized it soon.

The USB-Cable with the Ellipse 600 dosn´t Work. So the Ellipse 600 is Crap. Works for some Harware like Radio or CD-Player, but for NAS + PC Hardware this UPS (Ellipse 600) are Crap.

I guess APC is still working their way through products. Eventually your model should be modified to use a USB type A/B cable.

No, my Problem issent solved :( i´ve checkt the board to know where the pins are goint to, i wrote a Mail to German Eaton Support = no response, i wrote a mail to Eaton USA, no response.

I wanted this UPS because the UPS is working fine with the the NV+ V2. But about this Cable it is a worst Case. Exactly this Cabel is i missing from the owner before.

I seen some Post on NUT (Netwoked UPS Tools) anyone searched a Cable to in 2006, i wrote him a mail, but, what schould i say, no response.

I wrote some mails to the other Guy´s who have this UPS on this Forum... u can think it... no response...

@PapaBear - APC began transitioning their consumer Backups to a standard A/B USB cable back in Q3 2011. Its been slow going, but recently I notice many models are now using standard USB type A/B cable.

Check the manufactured date code on the BR1500G you just bought. To do this check the S/N and read digits 3-6. For example if they are 1132 then your unit was manufactured the 32 week of 2011. I will never buy one that is over 6 months because the batteries are decaying and beginning to sulfate.

I have two older APC BackUPS NS1250 (BN1250LCD) units which use the RJ50 to USB (A) cable. I also have a brand new APC BackUPS Pro 1500 (BR1500G) unit which uses the same. Until this discussion, I thought they were RJ45 connections (more properly denoted by the ISO standard 8P8C) and had not heard of the RJ50 (10P10C) until this discussion. I have learned something today so it is already a good day. I appreciate the info and lucifor, I hope your situation is resolved.

Agreed, the reference to RJ45 in the spec above is apparently an error. As posted above, you can find a couple of posts on the Ellipse 600 cable. Apparently Eaton is not responsive.

Lucifor, please post your results with your hand-built cable.

APC AP9827 is a RJ50 cable. Two additional pins so RJ45 won't work. I have used many APC UPS over the years and I am unfamiliar with a APC signaling cable using RJ45. They either use serial, the now outdated/discontinued RJ50 AP9827, or a conventional A/B USB cable.

Your Eaton unit seems to use a unique cable. The spec sheet claims its a combined USB/serial cable. I would call them and ask for a cable. FYI, if you were a previous fan of MGE single phase UPS (under 10kva), MGE was owned by Schneider Electric up until 2007. Schneider bought APC in 2007 and at the same time sold off MGE single phase products to Eaton. At least in the US, Eaton has done a fairly crap job promoting their consumer/SMB products. They are typically difficult to find and the one time I called their support, I knew the old company was history.
