Mix WD20EARS with WD20EARX
Hi,
some month ago I installed 4 WD20EARS into my NV+. After 2 weeks the SMART-stats for an HDD got really bad and I decided to replace the drive with a new replacement drive I ordered as a backup for these kind of situations. I requested an RMA from WD and got my drive replaced with a new WD20EARS.
A few days ago a second drive showed bad SMART-stats (only two defective Samsung drives in 5 years and 2 defective WD-HDDs after 2 month  ) and again I requested an RMA from WD. But this time WD didn't provide a new WD20EARS but a WD20EARX-00PASB0 as replacement.
Now I'm concerned about the compatibility of these drives as it isn't mentioned in the compatibility list. And I'm concerned whether I can mix the new WD20EARX with the old WD20EARS drives. Can anyone tell, if I have to expect issues with this combination?
Best regards

- JeminiAspirantI have upgrade my NV+ with a WD20EARX to expand storage to 4G, nothing bad happens till now.
- sherazadeAspirantThanks for your reply.
Meanwhile I contacted WD again and explained to them that I need to have the same model as a replacement drive as I originally bought. It took some time but finally they sent me a new WD20EARS and I returned the WD20EARX.
Hopefully the WD20EARS are not as bad as their reputation...

The very reason is that WD20EARS has been out of production for several months....
