NAS DUO reports new HD dead, but it passes diagnostics
I have a ReadyNAS Duo with two 2TB drives. Recently the green light for one drive went out and the NAS reported the drive as "dead". I removed the drive and ran seatools, it passed the smart and quick test but failed the long test. I purchased a WD20EARS (the only compatible 2TB drive in stock at newegg) and inserted it, after two days the drive was still shown as "dead". I removed the drive and ran WD diagnostics, it passed the smart, short, and long tests. I formatted it NTFS and again installed it in the DUO. As of this writing the drive is still shown as dead.
I suspect the duo itself has a problem. What's my next step? Is there any way to test the duo aside from throwing additional drives at it?
Thanks

- shimrodAspirantI didn't format the drive the first time I installed it. While I did format it after performing the diagnostics I did not partition it.

That is not possible. When you formatted the drive as NTFS, Windows created a partition for you automatically. It might have called it "initializing".shimrod wrote: ...While I did format it after performing the diagnostics I did not partition it.
You can re-insert the disk in the PC, and delete the partition (which returns the drive to the unformatted state that the NAS prefers). You do this by right-clicking on Computer (or My Computer) and selecting "Manage". You'll see the disk in the storage section. Right-click on the volume and delete it. Then eject the drive. Be careful to click on the right drive!
